So, before my c-scope, I asked the doctor on Monday if I'd be asleep through it. He said yes.
I get there and the nurses get me set up, eat their lunches in front of me, then wander away.
They left me there a good half an hour/45 minutes. Maybe longer, all I know is I was getting bored and kinda mad.

Finally some new nurse comes and he wheels me back. I ask again, "I'm gonna be asleep, right?" He says, yes.

So I get on my side, they bare my butt, and put some stuff in my IV, and the guy says good night.

Halfway through, I wake up, and it doesn't hurt, but I cry a bit cause I'm on drugs and I'm pretty mad, since everyone told me I'd be asleep, then later they acted like it's common knowledge I wouldn't be asleep the whole time. They said next time I can be asleep, but that wasn't the freaking problem. The problem was they told me I would be and I wasn't. If they'd warned me, I'd've been perfectly fine.

Anywho, back in recovery, the doctor says either my UC is undertreated or I have Chron's because the inflammation was patchy and it (I believe, I have to double check) involved my cecum and (maybe) the terminal illeum. There were large patches where my colon was healthy. He also wants me on pred, which I'd rather avoid, but if it's possibly Chron's, I want it cleared up before it moves any further. He said I could quit Rowasa while I'm on it, but I'm not going to.

Then, he ordered bloodwork, and since I already had an IV in my left arm, the girl had to poke me in the same place where the other girl screwed up the other day, and she also screws up and has to move the needle around.

Grr.

aww, I am sorry things didn't go so well. Do you have a lot of symptoms? I wouldn't want to go on prednisone unless I was having a lot of symptoms. I woke up right before the end last time too. I didn't feel anything but I'd rather wake up in recovery like I did at my first scope. It's just more comfortable that way.

Whoa! Before the doc slaps you with a Crohn's diagnosis, he should consider whether you have that variant of UC that involves the cecum + left side. Can you tolerate 5-ASA med? Maybe adding Pentasa would solve your latest problem.******************************************************** RE nurses/vein work: I hear you! Where my gastro is required to do c-scopes, the nurse in charge is a buffalo-sized bozo who hasn't got a clue how to deal with small veins. She should have been sent to work at the veterinary school, where the patients would bite, scratch, or kick her when she sticks them in the wrong place!******************************************************** Glad to read that everything else is going well, except for the Subaru loosing coolant. notsosickly, I don't really want to go on the pred either.
To be honest, I don't have a "feeling" that it's Chron's. The only things that point to any possibility of it being Chron's is the patchy inflammation and maybe the cecum. I just reread the report and the illeum was not affected. Everything else fits UC pretty much perfectly. Also, I've been in a much much worse flare, where they also did an upper endoscopy, and there was nothing in my small intestine.
I can tolerate 5ASAs, I'm not sure if it's good to take Asacol and Imuran at the same time, but I think I'll ask. I mean, it did help, just not enough alone. Personally I think most of the problem is that I haven't been taking my meds as religiously as I normally do. Ever since I moved out I just kind of lost my routine. But I'm definitely getting back into it the way I should be. Just two days before the scope I had more formed BMs with no blood. If he won't go for any of that I'll see if he'll start me on a lower pred dose. I don't want to start on 40 just for this. These symptoms I have now aren't even as bad as the ones I had before and while I was in Germany.

Also, yeah, I'm tired of these nurses lol. Firs they leave me with no word, not telling me when I could expect to be taken back. Also, the veins. Ugh. The blood lab where I usually go has a big girl who's really nice and does a really good job. Lately I've underwhelmed by the ones I've been getting.

Haha, yes I do.

I don't know what to do. I really don't feel bad enough to take the pred. He said he thinks I toned down my symptoms because I've "been living with it so long" but it really isn't bad. I give an honest report. Why should I tone them down? That wouldn't benefit me. Should I call the nurse and leave a message? Has anyone else taken Asacol and Imuran simultaneously? Or maybe ask if I can start at a lower dose of pred at the very least.

I've heard of people taking 5ASA's with Imuran. In my case I'd go with 5ASA's first. Pred will only work for so long. And you're already on Imuran's side effect s--t list.

Always remember, you can get a second opinion.

I'm on it's **** list? I don't have any side-effects from it.

Maybe I'll call the nurse tomorrow and see if she can put a message in. My mom wants me to take it because he said if it works quickly we'll taper right away. But I know how that goes.

I take 6mp and Asacol. It doesn't sound like you are too worried about Crohn's. I have about the same amount of question as you do. I've had patchy inflammation in the past, I also have had high platlet and I've had throat problems and canker sores but I think those can happen from UC as well. I don't get them often but I have for as long as I can remember - way before UC. A lot of people take 6mp and 5ASAs together. I think I am goign to switch to Remicade. I've been battling with 6mp and my body just don't metobalize it how it should. :(

Thanks, now I think I'll definitely call. Hopefully I'll get a fast reply. I can always stop the asacol later.

I'm not too worried because nothing else fits Chron's. I don't even get the mouth sores (which can happen with UC), my illeum is fine, and so is my small intestine. Not to mention I don't have any intuition saying I do. Which might not mean anything to people but it does to me. =p

I've also been wondering, besides not taking my meds as regularly as I should, I've also gained 10 lbs. I dunno if that could affect my medicine, but it seems like every time I start gaining weight, I start having symptoms too. I dunno. I guess it could be food related, but food doesn't generally affect me. Just a thought.

I hope you find something that works for you!
