My back started hurting earlier this week.  I had awful diarrhea on Thursday, which came out of the blue.  I am still having it, but not as often.  My back really hurt on Thursday and I couldn't decide if the diarrhea was UC related or just a bug.  I didn't have a fever, but felt achey.  This morning I woke up from a dream where I was telling someone about my back and crying because it hurt.  When I woke up I realized how much my back hurt.  It isn't extreme pain, just extremely uncomfortable with a decent amount of pain.  It is all the way up my back.  I have had some joint problems related to UC before.  I also was rearended about five weeks ago.   My back and neck hurt for a day or two but it went away.  I am trying to decide what is causing this pain.

So, all of that to say...

1. Does this sound UC related?

2. I am going to go to urgent care and have them look at it, but wondered if I should call my GI doc first. She is extremely proactive and once sent me to the ER to have an xray and blood work done before when I had lower back pain for ONE day.  Do you think I should call her before I go or just go to urgent care and see what they say?

Considering you were in an accident...rear ended would for sure cause problems in your back, even if you weren't seriously injured.

But, considering you 've had a serious bout of diarrhea, it could be that the distress of the accident is already causing you to flare and you're just noticing the more obvious symptoms. And flaring could definitely cause joint/back pain.

Have you been on any rectal meds? maybe something you can try.

What medications did you take related to and after the accident? and are you still taking them? Have you recently started your period? (i'm assuming you're female).

To be on the safe side, you could ask the doc to have you do stool samples just in case something else is going on.

I as well am getting back issues, my Doctor cleared it up for me though, after ruling out any issues via x-ray I was diagnosed with something he called "getting older" syndrome.

Sounds more like a cop out to me. I see alot of "getting older syndrome" from GP's.


If you had an accident its likely from that. This stuff can show up 2-4 months down the road.

    Could be from the prednisone.  How are your bones?

I agree with quincy. It's probably accident related, which then may have aggravated your UC into a flare.
