Like to give a shout out to pred!

You remind me often just how much you loved destroying my tendons. My left achillis thanks you today for a strain that occurred 4 years ago. You and I were very close during this timeframe. I will have to take extra time and ultrasound it Monday morning.....

Anything you would like to thank pred for?

weight gain, stretch marks, crying, fatty liver disease, no neck, the joint pain from being off of it, high glucose while on it oh and the remissions.

I'd like to give it a sincere thanks for pushing me toward surgery!  Had I not gotten to the point where I feared damage from prednisone use more than fearing the results of surgery; I wouldn't be healthy and UC free today.

i have used prednisolone 5 times in my life, each time about 3 months and i developed osteoporosis

     Osteoporosis...3 back fractures in last six years.  While on it, high blood pressure, high glucose levels, mood swings and insomnia.

     Like Suebear though, it did push me to my decision for surgery.  Not a doubt in my mind that I wouldn't be here celebrating my 65th birthday this week had I still been dependent on it.  Kicked it to the curb along with my rectum and colon last year .

Makes me sad, too--after 20 yrs of UC and at least a half dozen flares that required prednisone, I was diagnosed this year with osteoporsis. The last flare was so bad I talked my doc into going back on remicade which I had stopped the first time due to bad joint pain. Remi has put me back into remission (oh bliss), but with the usual sore throat, sinus problems, migrating muscle and joint pain, but not too bad yet. Unfortunately, Every time I have the remi infusion
lately, I have to take 20-40 mg pred for two or three days to get rid of back pain--a new wrinkle.

I'm coming to the end of the rope--do you think 73 is too old for surgery to get rid of this mess? If I had had a crystal ball, I would have done it years ago!

I would ask. My boyfriend's mom is 78, and she has had more than one surgery a year for the past five years, including bypass heart surgery and a pig valve transplant.

Risk of surgery will depend a great deal on your health.

Still crossing my fingers that nothing will develop from my Prednisone usage. I was on it 3 times with the usual 40 mg taper over the years and then a whopper of a 80 mg tapered dose for a few months during my final severe UC flare. My doctors said absolutely no more Prednisone. Had a permanent ileostomy and am so glad to be off all medications!

Michgoose- I had that same migrating joint pain after only 1 infusion of Remicade. It was horrible. It was so bad I could hardly stand, and I actually had to crawl around on the floor to get about. I obviously couldn't live like that, so Remi was out for me. I am so thankful the pain didn't last once Remicade left my system. You would have to ask a surgeon about the age limit for surgery. It seems that at my monthy Ostomy Association meeting there are several people that look to be in their 70s who have undergone surgery lately.

I'm with suebear and Christine -- thanks for pushing me into surgery, because it was the only drug that worked anymore, and it was simply not a long term option; I'm so much better now. Fingers crossed that the bone density scan in the osteoporosis/ostopenia range doesn't get any worse.....

Thanks for psychosis that almost made my husband leave me. He came around when he realized it was the pred. Doing great now aside from some osteoporosis.

Will never ever go on it again... More power to the enemas

Does anyone know if the excess facial hair ( aka peach fuzz) goes away after you are off the prednisone?
