Imodium stopped working?

I usually take 2 Imodium if I have somewhere I HAVE to be, but lately I find that it's not working.  Has this happened to anyone?  I have to drive 1.5 hrs to my GI doc today and I'm going to take 3 to help me.  Hope that it does b/c the last 2 times I had errands these past 2 weeks, I've had to use my daughter's potty seat in the car b/c the urgency's THAT BAD!

By the way, added to my sig, I'm on 3 3mg Entocort every morning.

I dunno know. But I would try Librax and Mebeverine. 5-HTP invigorates the paristolic waves but the terrific sleep was so attractive last week I took it anyway. A couple times I took my Librax and Mebeverine to counter act the effect. Worked perfectly. Last summer I was consuming a lot of Imodium and moved on to Librax and Mebeverine.

immodium works in the small intestine. maybe try one of the other anti-D meds that is specific to the colon?
or maybe your inflamation has gotten worse.

I definitely feel like my inflammation has gotten worse. I have a GI appt today and I'm scheduling my colonoscopy soon...due in Sept, but want to go in asap! I can't believe how much weight I'm losing. I thought the flare I had last year was terrible...this is just ridiculous :(

It sounds, by the weight loss and diarrhea, that you are in a severe flare. Imodium is not going to be effective.

mamabee..are you using the meds in your signature at this time?

What type and how much vitamin C are you using? How much and what type of Omega?

Are you worse than when on the Rowasa?

I am taking all the meds in my updated signature, minus the Entocort now, as well as what my doctor just added today...40mg prednisone, Ativan for anxiety, and Lomotil for managing diarrhea so I can actually get out of the house with my 2 girls if I need to. Really scared and emotional about everything. I go tomorrow for blood work b/c I'll be starting Imuran whenever I wean off the prednison to maintain my remission (fingers crossed that I get there soon).

The Rowasa really messed with me. I know I have extreme inflammation in my rectum and b/c I stopped the suppositories, I wasn't really coating that enough and I started bleeding again. Some days the enemas helped and other days they didn't.

What is Librax?

Librax is a combination of two separate drugs. One of the drugs (chlordiazepoxide) is a benzodiazepine, a family of drugs which are most often prescribed for anxiety and tension. The other drug (clidinium) is an anti-spasmodic, used to relax the muscles in the gut wall.

I recently tried to up my Slippery Elm Bark Powder from 1 teaspoon daily to 3 tablespoons daily ( spread out throughout the day), which enabled me to cheat and have ice cream.

SLippery elm is nature's mesalamine... without the side effects.

Perhaps it's something you may want to try?

I am really interested in the Transdermal LDN, but haven't found a doctor that will prescribe it. I am REALLY hesitant to start the prednisone, so I would like to find a natural route first and go from there. I've never heard of Slippery Elm Bark Powder, but you definitely have me interested!

Are you suggesting my Dr should have prescribed the Librax instead of 2 separate drugs? Thanks for the info!

If you're going to do LDN, make sure it is Transdermal LDN.

If you search through the posts, check out: Transdermal LDN put me in remission

It will explain the importance of Transdermal vs. oral type LDN.

But in the meantime, I would strongly urge you to try SLippery Elm Bark Powder: 1 tablespoon 3 times per day.

I have decided to started the SCD and look into Transdermal LDN. I've been researching it the past month and really think that once I get my diet under control, it will help me. Not ok with Prednisone or any other meds for that matter. Need to get this under control!

i take up to 15 immodium a day so if you feel comfortable, i'd say try 3.

No just underscoring my earlier post that when immodium and prednisone did not work I used librax and mebeverine and my flare subsided. Bleeding stopped immediately and BM frequency was slashed, took many weeks to get to 100% but that was the key to turning things around. Switched from asacol to sulfasalazine too.

@aguywithuc...Oh, ok. See, I wish my GI would give me other options instead of going straight to prednisone. I'm starting the SCD, but would like something to subside symptoms until that kicks in b/c I'm a full time Mom of a 3 yr old and 9 month old!

Calling on Monday to discuss my options more.
