Asacol dosage! 2400mg/day is equivalent to 4800mg/day

I used to take 4800mg/day and my GI lowered it to 2400mg/day. According to him, there have been many studies proving that taking any more than 2400mg(2pills, 3times a day) doesnt have a better effect.

I have heard this mentioned on here before but I know for a fact that I did better on 3600mg than I did on a lower dose. I tried to lower the dose many times when I was using Asacol for maintence and I always began having symptoms. I am now on a lower dose (3200mg), I would like to go lower but I am scared to rock the boat. I am on 6mp now as well.

If you dropped the dosage from 4800 to 2400..that's not a good thing..it should have been tapered.

If your UC is limited to no higher than the sigmoid..for maintenance, the 2400 is a good dosage, and it can be increased to let's say 3600 during a flare.

You can take the pills twice daily and not thrice. Less problems regarding forgetting a dosage.

It depends on the patient, not necessarily what's the info "out there".

BUT...you should for sure be on rectal meds...hopefully your doc read those studies as well.
