 Hi,

As some of you might have read my other post in which i wrote everything about my husband's UC, I'm here again to post up the side effects he has got from Imuran. 2 months ago, his GI put him on Imuran along with Prednisolone.He does fine with pred except a moon face,increased appetite,lots of facial hair and pimples all over his body.

But, with imuran this time, things have totally changed. He always feels nausea after eating. No appetite,chest burning,numbness of his hands while he is sleeping.Imuran is causing this.We talked to his GI last time and explained his condition.He has scheduled him for a nerve electrography test to see if the drug is causing him any nerve probs. Did any of you had such probs while on Imuran?

I'm really worried..what if we have to stop Imuran? His next option would be Infliximab-Remicade..It's really expensive here in Hong Kong and my husband doesnt even want to try it as he says, these biologics work only for a certain period of time and then things go back to their ugly self. I believe he is losing his hopes and doesn't want to try anything anymore.

Please give me some ideas of what to do? I can't find VSL #3 anywhere here("sigh").

what about LDN? Anyone had any luck with it? I don't think his GI would prescribe it for us. He doesn't support us in any other alternative options we talk to him about. gosh!!why do docs think only they know everything and don't give second thoughts to our thoughts and ideas?

Is he takimgn Imuran at night? I take 6mp before bed and I don't have many side effects. What dose is he on? i agree with him on the biologics but I would give them a try regardless. I have seen a few mmebers here who are on Remicade for quite a while and haven't had adverse reactions or a build up of antibodies. When I say quite a while I mean 5+ years. We do have members on LDN who are doing well but many of them are also altering diet. If you decide to try LDN, I recommend reading some of the past forum posts where users discuss what works for them because I haven't seen too many people on LDN alone that have had a miraculous recovery without altering diet and adding supplements. I could be wrong, I don't know to omuch about LDN. As for probiotics, some do extrmeely well adding them. I never noticed too much difference in my condition regardless of whether I take probiotics. I do notice my condition has improved since adding an antidepressant. There are some studies that show positive benefit from Wellbutrin, it may be something worth considering. Fecal transplant is an option, worm therapy, SCD Diet, antibiotic therapy...

I did get numbness of my hands and only just realized it went away, I have been on Imuran since Oct 2010.

i've been on imuran for over 8 years now, it made me nauseous at first but then I started taking it with oatmeal in the morning. A few spoons of oatmeal -1 pill, more oatmeal, more pills, etc.
The idea is to surround the pill with food. It worked for me, Imuran has done amazing things for me and the side effects have been none after the initial breaking in period, Good luck, and think positive!
