Fecal transplant update

For anyone that's interested, here is an update on my fecal transplant progress.

In the last 16 days I have done 13 implants. The results have been really great but I'm not in total remission. I still have a small amount of blood. But other than that I feel like I did prior to getting this disease. All other symptoms are gone.

The amount of blood I have is very small compared to what it used to be. My GI doc had told me that rectal inflammation and bleeding can be stubborn. I can tell I don't have rectal inflammation anymore because my stools used to be skinny and now they're normal. It's just the blood that isn't going away.

So I'm not sure if I need to do more implants, if I don't have a good enough donor, or if this is as far as ft will take me. On the off chance that the blood is caused by a hem, I'm going to take a week off from ft and use hem supps to see if that helps. I had a flex sig in June and my doc saw one small hem so it could be the culprit.

If not, I'm going to continue with ft for a while. If nothing else doing it has worked 10 times better than both Salofalk supps and enemas. I have been off all drugs for 16 days. And I feel great.

That's great. Being off all drugs is a huge plus. I hope you are able to find the cause of the minimal blood and cure it. I was having it for a while and I am 99% sure it is the fissure I've been battling for months! You would know if you had one of these though, they hurt terribly.

Even in a best case scenario, it would take some time for your colon to heal up if you have been flaring for a while. We are talking months, like in the case of people who get F-T to treat c-diff, where it may take 3 months or more for symptoms to completely resolve once the infection is cleared.

I find that when I'm flaring, the bleeding will increase when the BMs get bigger, but the fact that the BMs are getting bigger means that I'm flaring less.

Yes. I would continue with the fecal transplantation. I find that it's easy for the bacteria to become imbalanced again. Just one treatment of antibiotics, and I will probably need to do fecal transplantation again. Since you have the opportunity to do fecal transplantation more times, you might as well take the opportunity. I would continue with the treatments. When I did fecal transplantation the first time, the bleeding stopped immediately after the third try. When I did fecal transplantation the second time, I was able to do only two treatments. I had to wait several days after the second treatment for the bleeding to stop entirely. I would have continued with the treatments, but I did not have the opportunity. Although my BMs are normal, they are not as good as after the first time. Doing an additional treatment would have probably made a difference.

If you do a search of this forum you'll find a lot of info on the subject. I figured out my ft process from reading this forum.

I didn't know it could take that long. Seems like people on this forum that have done ft have seen almost immediate results. I have too except for the bleeding. I've been bleeding for a year and a half though so it may take a while to clear it up.

I will continue because it's worked so much better than any drugs I've taken. I'm not sure how long to give it though. At some point I want to stop to see if it's going to be a temporary fix or long-lasting. But I'd like the bleeding to go away first.

Hey guys! I did 8 transplants awhile ago (the 18th) and i didnt see any results until the 31st. That day i got really bad gas but only went toilet 7 times (usually 10-15) since then everyday i have cut down 1 BM a day. Yesterday i only went 3 - 4 times!! Its exciting seeing an improvement each day and i think it will get better slowely overtime until i am completely better.

They do say it can take 3 months to work, I am so excited! have been in a flare for 2 years and have never only been 3 times in 24 hr! im not even gettting up in the night so its so good to have a whole night sleep!!!

I've been in a flare for a year and a half.  FT has put me close to remission but I'm still not there.  I wonder why it would take months to work?  Are you sure your improvement isn't due to something else?  What other things were you doing from the 18th to the 31st to curb your UC?  Are you on any drugs? 

I'm on transplant #18 in the past 24 days.  Still bleeding slightly.  I've gotten so skilled at doing it that I did a transplant early Friday evening and then went out with friends.  I was able to hold it in without any problems.

My understanding is that the colon is a pretty toxic, filthy place, loaded with bacteria, partially digested food, waste material, etc, so the healing there is slow. It's not so much that it takes months to "work", it's more that it takes months for all the symptoms to completely disappear, if they are going to.

Nope, didnt do anything different and not on any meds. I got sick after taking antibiotics and before i started this i took them aswell. So how i see it is it maybe it needed time to multiply enough to start the healing.

Dr borodys study says this.. "complete reversal of UC was achieved in all patients in four months post HPI"

I did kinda flare up again yesterday so i did another infusion but i think it was because i got stressed. I was upset because i thought it would just keep getting better. But i have slowed down today so i think i will be back on track again soon!
