Timing of medication

Hi everyone. Just a quick question, does the timing of when you take your medication (in relation to meals) really matter?

I take Salofalk granules and the instructions say they should be taken either half an hour prior to a meal or 2 hours after a meal. Is it necessary to follow these instructions?

Max, I take Asacol in the morning right when I wake up. Sometimes I have food shortly after, other times, I don't eat for quite some time. I haven't noticed it making a difference in my condition.

for my prilosec, i have to take an hour before i eat. my prednisone, it doesn't really matter. the 6mp i take at night because it ALWAYS makes me feel like a zombie. i was taking it at noon and then napping for 2 hrs soon afterward before i realized, "why don't i just take it when i wanna go to sleep??"

i have never had salofalk granules but it sounds like it should be taken on an empty stomach. maybe it has to do with the ph levels in your stomach at the time so them medicine can work properly and get to your colon.

A specific such as the granules are different than with the pills...It seems it would be easier for them to clear the stomach before food enters.

A half hour before seems the best rather than waiting 2 hours afterward.

How often do you take them in correlation to your meals?

Quincy, I always try my best to follow the guidelines but because I always eat first thing in the morning, I usually forget to take the granules first so I end up taking them 15 minutes after eating. Sometimes if I wake up to take an early morning pee I'll take the granules first but this is not often. My 2nd dose I take just before bed which is probably only an hour after food... at most.

There is a reason that the instructions state to take the med at certain times. In this case, it's to get the most benefit out of the granules.

Other than my Prilosec, I can take my meds with or without food. So normally I take my Colazal, Prilosec and Citrucel on an empty stomach - I can't eat when I just wake up, it makes me nauseous. The others, whenever it's time.
