Pregnant with UC flare up with cramps

I am 28 years old and 21 weeks pregnant. I have been having a flare up for the past 4 weeks and am currently being treated with steroids with no sign of relief. I have severe cramping. I'm wondering if anyone has had severe cramping (at first I was unsure if I was having a contraction or just UC discomfort) The pain is intense to the point where I have to stop what I am doing and lasts about 30 seconds to a minute. I am going to my OBgyn tomorrow but wanted to get some opinions from people that suffer with UC.

What are some safe treatment options I can look into while I'm pregnant? I have read a lot about Ramicaid therapy.

You might consider going to the emergency room to have that checked out. Those cramps sound pretty severe. I had uc when i was pregnant with my last son and i stayed on pred the entire time.

I've been to the ER and they are the ones that put me prednizone and said to follow up with my GI which I did and he kept me on it but I'm not getting any relief. Wondering what other options I have. I want to enjoy my pregnancy and right now I'm miserable :(

What's your dose of prednisone?

40 mg per morning

Are you on any other meds? You really should be on some sort of maintenance medication.

At the ER, did they hook you up to monitors to see if you were having contractions? They should have. If they didn't, and you are still having these, call your OB's office. You'll talk to their answering sevice, and a doc will return your phone call. They may want you to go to the maternity ward of your hospital.

I agree with fruitgirl.

40 mg of pred seems to be the starting dose these days for people in IBD flares. Just a few years ago I was in a terrible flare and my rheumatologist started me at 60 mg. I wonder if moving your dose higher would help address this issue more quickly.
