My son was just diagonised now at age 24. I am just wondering if your childs disease progression was similiar to yours if you had it first. I'm worried cause mine ended with a j-pouch.
Thanks

I have UC and have a kid who was dxed at age 13.... and the short answer is no.
I was in and out of the hospital my first year, took about
8 months to stop flaring, was on a long slow taper down and back up (symptoms rebounded) for 2 years.
My son was on pred for about
8 weeks, got off it fine, has had only one mini-flare since, which was solved with a multiple approach of Flagyl, an increase in Asacol, fiber, and probiotics.
We're all different; our kids are different from us. None of us wants our kid to go through this thing - it's hard to deal with, isn't it?
But there are new meds and new thinking, even since you were diagnosed (and certainly since my time!) There are so many more possibilities for treatment now. Hang in there!
