Hospitalized in april, now flairing again in sept

I was hospitalized in april for sever UC along with sever malnutrition, took pred and asacol for 10 weeks and Im am still on asacol (4800mgs) till this day. Did well until 2 weeks ago. Im now in a flair again, but Im not seeing near the blood I usually see with my flares in the past. This is my first time on meds. I have dealt with this holistically for 12 years before the hospitalization. But I have also never had a second flair hit me so soon after the first. Im baffled and very frustrated. Any thoughts?

I would talk to your doctor about adding mesalamine enemas nightly. Studies have shown that people who use them in conjunction with oral meds reach remission more quickly. They have also found that using them twice weekly (along with oral meds) when in remission keeps patients in remission longer than if they only use oral meds.

I would also add a good quality probiotic supplement.

I took pred for a rare spring flare and wanted to get off quickly, DR warned me about that and sure enough it came back months later. The pred did nothing for me. Once your in a deep hole like that you need probiotics but here is what I did to get out of it:

2nd Flare in same year
--------------------------
Prednisone
Asacol, Lialda etc

Switched meds
---------------------------
Librax
Sulfasalazine
Mebeverine

Libarax and sulfa snapped me out of a deep bloody flare. Stopped bleeding abruptly and began the long healing process.
