Uveitis again

Hi all have not posted for a while have been up and down,well last night at work my eye started acting up knew from tell tell signs that it was going to get worse,ended up phoning my matron at 4.30 am to relieve me so I could go to A&E
Have now got steroid drops
This is the forth time ive had this and each time I worry as I know how bad it can be,was made worse by the nurse at A&E who kept asking had I been poked or punched in the eye ,must have told her 7 times no but she kept asking.
Dr was good and understood what I was saying and let me have drops after looking in my eye did phone eye specialist to ok drops first,so did not have to go back later eye feeling a bit better now but still red and sore and photosensitive
Also got liver scan on Friday as have been having a lot of right sided pain GI ?ing gallstones will let you know out come, not my lucky week and it's only Wednesday.

I had Iritis (similar) for a week while traveling and was incorrectly diagnosed twice with having "pink eye," of a bacterial nature. Miserable! It just kept getting worse and even the antibiotics hurt. The eye drops worked real well after a few days though and prevented permanent eye damage.

Your doctor will probably disagree with you, but if you have any left at the end keep it (in the refrigerator) since you seem to have recurrance. May help you get through the day before you get back to the doctor if it happens again. OF course, if you have bacterial or viral conjunctivitis, this will make it worse very fast so make sure you aren't exposed to anyone with pink eye before you use it. Best case scenario you can get to an eye doc same day, have it validated, then go on steroid drops right away. My personal choice is to save my extras..

Sorry the uveitis is back, Lambkins, take good care of yourself. By the way, how did you resolve your wobbling tooth problem? I just came from dentist for same reason-- that's why I'm asking. The only good thing that happened is that on the city bus going to dentist's office I met 4 tourists from Wales, middle-aged women who asked me for sightseeing directions. Glad you're feeling some eye improvement. My dentist took x-rays & unfortunately found an abscess at the apex of the tooth. This happened in spite of all my brushing, flossing, etc. + getting hygienist's cleaning 3 times yearly! So today I saw a periodontist for additional evaluation. She & my dentist say that the abscess + amount of bone loss require extraction, which of course makes me very unhappy. They pressed me to schedule right away with the oral surgeon so that he can clear out the infected tissue before it spreads bacteria to the sinus above this premolar. He took time at the end of his workday today to explain the procedure to me, gave me Rx for antibiotic + narcotic (in case pain starts over weekend), & scheduled me for Monday. I'm not looking forward to it, but at least I know he is conscientious & takes good care because he excised a little periodontal polyp for me 3 yrs ago. He told me that about 4 months after extraction I will be evaluated for implant insertion. An older cousin of mine just wrote that dentist was able to save her wobbling lower front teeth some time ago with a splint. The big question when wobbling occurs is how much bone loss you have, and what can be done to reverse that or compensate for it. If compensation is required, they are now using grafts of "reprocessed" bone matter from animals (or maybe even cadavres, yuck) to shore up the tooth socket for implant insertion. You might benefit from consultation with a periodontist, Lambkins. You need to find an ophthalmologist who understand uveitis - or at least an ophthalmologist who understands the immediate nature and needs of uveitis. He or she needs to work you in the day you call with problems. You'll have better results that way.

I suspect the uveitis keeps coming back because there is still something going on with the colitis. Probably some gas and minor discomfort and loosening of your stools that you aren't yet connecting. Bleeding will probably not happen because the extra liquid from the eye drops will drain down your throat and treat the colitis as well. Prednisolone is closely related to Prednisone.

I know we all hate to think it, but an immune-system suppressant is probably needed. If you aren't having many UC symptoms, probably just a low-dose. Maybe the eye drops are sufficient and you just need to get a doctor who better understands it.

How frequently have your uveitis flare-ups been? You mention 4 but not a time-frame. I've had probably 100 in the last 3 years so obviously my conditions were probably worse all around - hence the Imuran I'm finally on which is controlling my uveitis flare-ups better (and my UC).

Oh yeah, try using antihistamine eye drops too. Zaditor works great for me and my ophthalmologist says it can be used up to 6 times a day (bottle says 2) with no worries. I see the uveitis specialist for Dallas at Texas Retina Associates. I use it when I'm getting gradual symptoms of uveitis and need just a little relief. It can delay the need for Prednisolone drops and perhaps make the UC connection clearer.
