Antibiotics while flaring?

I'm almost out of a flare that has lasted about 3 or 4 months now, but two days ago I got an infection that will require antibiotics and an oral antifungal...

I'm scared because this flare has been pretty tough for me, and now that It's almost over, I'm prescribed this, and I honestly have no idea whether antibiotics are bad or good for UC/Chron's. I guess it could disrupt my flora and get inflammation as a result. The same thing with the oral antifungal; I didn't even know there was such a thing as an oral antifungal, but anyway...

Any advice would be much appreciated. The antibiotic is Cefadroxyl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cefadroxil)

Sorry to start by saying I cannot help much, but I share your concern for the antibiotics. Sometime the infections need them, but UC sufferers can flare. Make sure your Doc knows your full history. Try a probiotic-a good one. VSL#3DS seems to work for many members here. It may help you during the antibiotic run. If youc an't get that one, try the OTC Culterelle or Align, as they seem to have some potency. Your med's seem pretty light considering your symptoms. Have you tried rectal foam (Cortifoam)? It is a smaller dose of steroids that seems to work well for the rectum. Might be time to bring on bigger meds-6mp, etc... Don't let this nasty disease get too far ahead of you.
