LDN doc won't try it

Mentioned it today and she said I would have to go somewhere else. Same for the fecal transplant. It doesn't,'t seem right, because surgery would be next.

I mentioned LDN to my GI last time I was in a flare, he laughed and asked if I even knew what it was for! Booooo! mad

Any doctor can prescribe LDN, not just your GI. I find that GIs are more conservative than most.

Most GIs will not prescribe it. There is a list for your state available if you search on google where you can find a DR who will prescribe LDN. FT is not FDA approved and is considered experimental and a liability. It's hard to find a doctor who is willing to take the risk.

One thing you may have luck asking about is antibiotic therapy. Triple antibiotic therapy is something I would like to try.

three antibiotics at once? I was on cipro and flagyl after the hospital, but pred at the same time.

my GI was the one who suggested the LDN. i'd never heard of it before he talked about it... i mean, i had seen the letters on here, but since i wasn't on it, i didn't really pay attention. perhaps if you directed your doc here to see some of our threads about how good it is, something might change.

That is a shocking level of ignorance. LDN is being heralded as one of the greatest therapeutic breakthroughs in the past 50 years of medical science. It's best known for its help with MS.

Do your research, you can find LDN. Use the forums and the listserv mentioned that catalogs willing doctors around the country.

If you really want it, you can have it. Just put all the resources necessary into getting it. I did, and it's changed my life completely.

I don't know ByeByeUC but my doctor wouldn't prescribe it for that reason. I don't blame her as she doesn't have first hand experience with it... But I'd like to try it, personally. It's too bad there's not more research on LDN and UC. :\

I don't think it is controversial, I think doctors are scaredd to prescribe any medication they are not familiar with. My GI is very openminded and she said there was no good evidence showing LDN successful for UC. I showed her articles I'd seen here and elsewhere on the web but she wouldn't let me try it. If you want to try it, you're probably better off trying to get it from a GP or a doctor from the LDN list who regulary prescribes it.

The only clinical studies showing LDN can promote mucosal healing was done for Chrons. UC still needs to be studied. Most of the other accounts, while offering many hopeful reports, are still anecdotal. There is such a high placebo response rate with UC it is hard to judge reports not from a clinical trial. If you want it, use the web to find a physician or alternative med person who will prescribe it. Getting off-label prescriptions is a lot to ask of traditional GI docs who need to worry about their liability.

My doc showed some interest in the article I showed him, but we agreed to run the course with 5-asa, cort enemas, and 6mp before we tapped anything alternative.
