I get my Remicade (infliximab) at home; it's very convenient and less expensive for the insurance I have and where I live.
Severe flares have put me in the hospital and I see benefits going there because the wife and kids don’t see me so ill, they don’t have to take care of me, I get the right foods at proper intervals, my vitals are monitored by professionals and, if I need urgent procedures or medicine, the doctors/nurses have better access to me.
However, during one bad flare years back I was hooked up to the IV at home. The nurse set it up and I changed out my own saline bags and gave myself the Solu-Medrol through a self-sealing connector in the line. The kids thought it was fascinating seeing me all hooked up and walking around with the IV pole.
Anyway, home infusions are easiest for me so I wanted to mention the option.
Ask your nurse, insurance provider or call a “home parenteral” business yourself if interested.
