I had my colonoscopy/endoscopy today

Things went fine, though I definitely feel a bit bloated and belchy now. Need to do some exercises to force that gas out. He didn't find any polyps, and everything was normal except for a segment of mild colitis in the transverse colon, which was biopsied. It didn't have prominent blood vessels like the normal areas -- is that normal for inflamed area? I would've thought the opposite. My UC has been only proctitis before now, but he was surprised at how great that area looked -- the rectal meds are working well. He said it would now seem to be indeterminate colitis -- not sure what that means. He thought that area of inflammation might have something to do with my anemia, but wasn't sure. No ulcers or inflammation in the esophagus or stomach.

So you only use rectal meds, no oral Rx?

Great! It sounds as though your GI is leaning towards CD and not UC. You don't seem to follow the UC pattern since you have a patch in the transverse.

Your biopsies will tell more...when do you get the results?

You should be on an oral 5ASA asap, however...maybe the Apriso would be a good choice considering it's a lower 5ASA dosage with better delivery.

I started taking some generic colazal when I flared up in August, went off it when I started feeling better, then started taking it again when I worried myself back into a flare a couple of weeks ago. That's the only one that has a decent co-pay on my insurance -- $10 for 270 of that a month, versus $75 for 30 of anything else, and who takes just one Asacol a day??

Doctor said 2 or 3 days for the biopsy results. Would the biopsy tell if it was CD rather than UC? I was still a bit groggy afterward and didn't think to ask him. I mentioned CD to him, and he said it was a possibility but was unsure at this time.
