Moviprep and som bad news

I haven’t yet started this moviprep yet but it smells like some sort of laundry detergent. I’m not looking forward to doing this, in fact I’m a bit scared of it. I’m also hungry already.     Bad news guys -- on the 24th I saw a little blood in my stool. I’m not sure if that means i am going to fail in what I’m trying to do or not. I’m sooo soo annoyed as i haven’t seen it in 8 months. And the real thing that pissed me off is that i stopped doing the SCD diet almond chicken. which i know I should limit frying so i did and then i saw it. What is that all about .. Oh guys I may fail this.. I hope not but I cant tell.. I know quincy you think i should be on meds but i still didnt use any, I want to see what the colonoscopy says.  I was so confident before but now I don’t know   Ive done soo soo much and to see that made me sooo soo upset. It seems that when i get no symptoms i feel on top of the world and that Im going to get away with this and not have to have this nightmare of a disease. If I get a symptom I get supper depressed. I start the movi prep at 1.00pm today i start drinking it. Ive already made it up there is a litre of it waiting for me right now

Don't be so hard on yourself. You tried something different to gain and stay in remission. If it didn't work it's not your fault. You can spend hours, days, and weeks trying to figure this disease out only to be surprised by its unpredictability. The most important thing now is for you to stop the flare before it progresses.

Eventually, you'll recognise the value of the medications...make smart decisions about your care.

I miss the point of not using meds while on the SCD..

I've never used Movieprep...hope all goes well for you.

Keep us posted after the scope.

You're not a failure by trying something you believe will work...but you have to be realistic about the facts.

I did the movi prep and the first liter I couldn't drink it all. So close to vomitting and then what good what it have done me. The second liter I got down easier. Don't know why...but it is awful.

yea true. i havent had any since the 24th so i dont know. i want to see what they say. I just dont want to acknowledge this is a life term thing i dont want to live with this for the rest of my life. Ever since i got into touble in 2009 i have been trying other things. And i have made progress. sometimes i wonder though maybe i will never be able to include more foods. Im not sure that is healthy long term.

UC is a disease of denial. However, at this point, no matter what you do, you cannot get rid of it. It's a life long chronic condition that will have periods of remission followed by periods of flare. No two cases are the same. I had a 10 year remission followed by a severe flare that resulted in surgery. I know of a woman who had a 25 year remission followed by a flare that resulted in surgery. This does not mean you will end up in surgery but it does go to show you that remission isn't permanent.

not just with diet or what you eat but some for of bacteria. i dont know?? i cant imagine my life with this forever. i just cant. i keep on imagining my life on the full SCD diet if i could manage that i would be completely happy. I would just like to add some more foods.. Its been nearly 2 years being so so strict.

sometimes i don’t understand it all..

it seems that if I would go off the diet it would come back. Defiantly I am really sure of that. If I stay on I think I may have these blips. I cant guarantee I wont flare in full, I cant promise. If I go back on the meds and the normal diet Im scared I will end up going to the next med and then the next. And then becoming prednisone dependant. And if I had surgery my body would be soo messed up by the meds by the time I get the surgery the rest of my body will be messed up.

I feel this UC is a trap, its just a world of confusion for me. I hate UC really really hate it. I wish I never got diagnosed with this illness.

Poor thing. You can't blame yourself, this illness truly is a pain in the ass. I have been doing well lately with 6mp and Asacol. I tried anticandida and SCD and it didn't get me into remission.

HK...you're letting your paranoia interrupt your thinking process.

You're in denial regarding how medications work, and if you do the very baseline meds of oral/rectal 5ASA, you might swing it "forever" to use only them.

Let us know how the scope goes.

HK, yeah, medicines will never treat the cause- only the symptoms. if you can find a way to totally rid your body of it, then great. but if you can't, then medicines can help manage it. i don't think this is something people have for forever once they get it. you just have to try different methods that work for you. some people may totally disagree with what you're doing, but who cares? it's your body and your life. just continue to monitor what you eat and see what the colonoscopy says. hopefully, it's just hemorroids or something you ate.

I'm allergic to the preps and my GI give me Gatorade and Miralax..taste a heck better and is gentler on the system.

I don't trust the prep at all after what happened to my dad. He went in the hospital for rectal bleeding and was being prepped for a colonoscopy. The morning before the procedure he bled profusely and passes away! I blame that on the prep! That stuff is not meant to be taken by people with our condition or when something is not quite right down there. Grant it that my dad was never diagnosed with IBD but then this last colonoscopy was in 1996...so it hard to tell what was causing the bleeding! He was 88 years old when he passed away. Just happened this year too. it definitely made my flare worse!

peaceandharmony, i'm so sorry that happened to your father. i don't understand why they do such horrendous preps for people who have really bad bleeding. the prep ALWAYS makes my bleeding worse and it's not like they need to even do a colonscopy when they know how bad it is already.

I'm confident I can live without this interfering with my life by making choices ( I know its not that simple for some people ) and it sounded like that was the case for you too. I have had little sleep in 9 months working 70-80 hours per week on average and getting woken up all hours of the night when I do sleep. I am still doing good based on the decisions I have made. I dont even take sulfasalazine or VSL3 any longer. I ate a full carton of chocolate covered almonds yesterday and when I finally went to day it was not the usual terrific solid waste. Kinda figured that was going to happen and it makes sense. I know not to do that. I have a system that works for my system, I get bored and cheat a little.

My point is I think you need to return to what worked in the past.

As for the real topic in this thread..I'm impressed that some can get by without taking meds. I'm slowly learning that the trad med may not be the best for me either and I have tried some homeopathic remedies with good results. There may be more bumps in the road but it's encouraging to come over them. Beside research shows that this drug stop working after a while and even the disease can go away on it's own...so how can you know it's the drugs really keeping you in remission? Even the drug's side effects are the same/similar to UC!

Being off meds take more attention. I wouldn't say just to rely on what worked in the past as this disease can change over time and become resistant to certain treatments. Experimentation is the best we can do and there are plenty of sights out there with people sharing their personal experiences.

For rectal bleeding I found this enema remedy to work right away.
1 tsp slippery elm powder
1 tsp marshmallow root powder
1 tsp comfrey powder
2 cups water at body temp
blend together and retain overnight.

I do a warm water rinse first. You can use an enema bag or reuse the enema bottles from past meds - just wash them in hot soapy water.
I also do a colon massage to move the enema around to my ascending colon. Lay on you back with the knees bent and work from the rectum. It a good way to get to know your colon too and it works great in the other direction while on the toilet to get things out faster!

Right now I'm finishing up a bowel rest diet. One more week and I can start adding foods back in. This makes the opportunity to test for food sensitivity too.

Hi aguywithuc. It didnt go wrong its just that i wanted to cure my uc. it has made improvements with out a doubt. I went from pooing blood every day to only seeing 1 blib of blood on the 24th. Until then i had not seen any in 8 months so the program did help with out a doubt. its just i wanted to have no symptoms ever. I wanted to get rid of it completly and i havent

oh ok, I saw 'blood' and was concerned things had spiraled out of control.

I am symptom free when I dont binge on banned foods from my list

- no urgency
- good solid waste
- temp is once daily or every other

I eat protein from chicken, fish and whey.
I drink only water and Ultima electolyte powder as well as coconut juice
Breads are fine
Yogurt is fine

Curcumin daily
Turmeric daily
Resveratrol
3 fish oil

arginine ethyl ester

My last colonoscopy I drank half the prep and ate the night before, when i went in i told them i couldnt handle the prep and the nurse did a few enemas that took about 10 minutes to flush me out. Im wondering for my next one if i can just go in an do enemas for an hour an skip the whole nightmare day prep. You have to think positive though, uc feeds on negative thoughts/depression/stress.
