Pancreaitis? Help!

So I've had a minor flare up, for reason I think I might know. Anyways, major diet overhaul and gettin back to my strict paleo diet ways.

Regardless, I'm started taking my Mesavant (5-asa) for my colitis about 3 days ago. I didnt wean up, I just took the normal doseages right away, I'm not on a large amount anyways...

I noticed after the 1st day I was getting pain below my stomach, almost small intestine area which Ive never really had... Just this constant dull ache that still hasnt stopped. So its the night after day 3 and it's not going away and its kinda hard to stand up straight or breath deep cause its so tender.

Even laying down makes it feel bad, and I dont know if its my upper back from sitting around so much. I know its not gas or colitis cramps because I only make 1-2 BM a day with a bit of blood streaking at the end.

Any thoughts about this being pancreatitis? Or how they treat colitis/ASA induced pancreatitis? And if you've had it, how long does it take to go away after stopping the 5-asa?

5-asa is a common one according to the literature and even here I notice people having problems with them. I can really tell the difference between a flare, ive never had this weird dull pain before. And my GI symptoms are so so mild, very little blood and yet this everlasting ache.

I have exams in 8 days so I dont know what to do. I dont know if wait times are similar elsewhere, but the wait times for stuff in Canada takes forever... It would probably pass by the time I get in and checked.

I've managed my colitis my whole life without 5-asa. I only took Asacol from the age 12-14 then never again. I only wanted to see if Mesavant would take me out of this very mild flare faster, because exams and me slacking on my diet has done a bit of damage.

I really dont want to go into hospital just yet, they'll keep me there and I seriously dont want to end up having to postpone my exams... I'll lay off the 5-asa and see if it goes away like Im predicting.

Youre lucky! They tried me on Imuran and I got major liver aches or something was wrong. I'm running out of drugs to treat it with :/ Thankfully diet works like magic on me, darn these Mcdonalds binges after a long day of school :p Thanks for your help Quincy!

My daughter got pancreatitis from mesalazine. The test you need to diagnose this is a raised blood Amylase level.

Pancreatitis started as a dull ache just below the ribs from the middle towards her left side which would start shortly after eating but would then go away after an hour or so.

The pain became stronger and lasted longer over a few days and she lost her appetite. Then she developed nausia that came on really quickly - fine one minute then really grey and nausious at the thought/smell/touch of food in her mouth.

If you get drug induced pancreatitis the treatment is to stop taking the drug and then have pain control medication possibly with a special diet or drip feeding to support you while your pancreas recovers.

It is important to get diagnosed quickly. People can have chronic pancreatitis for many reasons - but drug related pancreatitic can be acute and life threatening.
