Bleeding during Miralax prep?

Prepping for a scope tomorrow. I took the 4 Dulcolax tablets a few hours ago, and they're kicking in now--I start drinking in 30 min. However, I've been losing A LOT of blood in my last few BMs and I've lost almost virtually no blood since July, only a bit of spotting the past week. Has anyone else had such a severe reaction to this type of prep??

mkl, I did have a bad reaction but not with blood. My situation was that the dulcolax didn't kick in for HOURS, until after I had already gotten through drinking the majority of the miralax and was passing clear. I ended up getting very nauseous and I threw up a lot. I am sorry you're having bleeding. It is very strange to have it after so long without. Are you flaring?

Ugh, sorry to hear that! Yeah, I've thrown up half the prep, but things are coming out clear (well...yellow, the Gatorade color) so hopefully I cleaned out enough.

I do think I'm starting to flare again--I had a spot of blood here and there over the past five days so was getting weary, but to see it pouring out of me was quite alarming and very disappointing. We'll see what the situation is tomorrow!

I am sorry you're feeling discouraged. All I can tell you is that I have been there and it's not easy but you will get through it. That's what I try to remember when I am feeling down and for me, it has been the case. Goodluck tomorrow. Please let me know how it goes :)

mlk, i usually bleed during any prep but my colon is just very sensitive. any type of really strong laxative aggravates me. i really hope your scope goes well tomorrow and that we can hang out again this month- praying that you don't have a flare. i have been busy with studying for an exam on dec 19, but after that, we should get together. not sure when you are going home to see your family, but we'll work something out : )

Unfortunately, the colonoscopy did not turn out well. My disease has progressed from left-sided UC to pancolitis. I was shocked! And my GI was, too. I guess I was never in remission, just the illusion of remission from steroids. My rectum is spared (thank you Canasa!) so now I'm adding Rowasa enemas (Finally! I had a thread a while back about my GI not prescribing them) and...well...my GI thinks I should give Remicade another go. I'm going to start another thread to see if I can find out about people's experiences with that. I'm just still shocked I have my disease spread that quickly, all while on many steroids and mesalamines.

That stinks. I am sorry. Same thing happened to me when I went for my scope after initial diagnosis with proctitis. How long ago were you diagnosed? Mine spread over about 1 year...

At least now you can get some Rowasa and hopefully you will get this under control quickly.

Well first diagnosed with Crohn's 4 years ago...but that eventually got rediagnosed to left-sided UC about a year ago. So yes, about a year of progression, though given my horrendous flare this summer, i think it progressed much faster. I only had a sigmoid scope this summer, not a full look, so I'm imagining it was pancolitis then, given the severity.

I'm wondering if you DO have Crohn's colitis. For example, another member here, Pam222, had many treatment events, including surgery, before it was finally determined that she has Crohn's. Take care & hang in there! Rowasa can help your sigmoid colon, but you will need oral med for right side & transverse colon. / Old Hat (31 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
