zdenka, they are the same medication. Mezavent, Asacol, salofalk, Rowasa, Canasa are all forms or brand names for mesalamine. Some of us have exactly the reaction you described. You may be able to tolerate the Salofalk suppositories because the dosage is very small and very localized, while a larger dose spread over more of your colon causes problems.
Oftentimes those of us who don't tolerate mesalamine are able to tolerate balsalazide (Colazal), which is a slightly different form of 5-ASA.
