Just remember to be very gentle on your colon. It's in a very inflammed state which means you should still go easy, soft and low-residue for a while. You may miss out on the eating part of the holiday, but it's a very small price to pay to getting that colon settled down.
I am currently on 2 weeks of 40mg of Prednisone and start tapering to 30 in a couple of days. It took at least 7 days for the urgency, bleeding and diarreha to improve. Interestingly, I've been hospitalized twice in the last 18 months to recieve IV steriods and I swear they didn't work as well as the oral ones. I truely believe that is was the liquid and soft diet in the hospital that rested my colon which brought the most improvement.
I hate the Prednisone, but I've been in this flare since late April when my 13 months of Remicade remission quit me. Started Humira 6 weeks ago but have seen no results as yet which I hear is normal. Though I am experiencing several steriod side-effects, my UC symptoms have improved 90%. Kind of like getting the best of 2 evils but I'll take it for now. Kind of scared to see what happens though when I taper down below 20mg.
Hang in there. This a a real roller coaster ride for all of us but we are here for you. We are love and supported by our friends and families but no one really understands like a fellow UC sufferer.
