Do you take probiotics?

Probiotics are good bacteria. When someone has bowel issues, bad bacteria tend to take over and the good bacteria can not do it's job properly. Probiotics basically repopulate the colon to work more efficiently. You can get them almost anywhere but the best place to get them would be in the refridgerated section of a health food store. It's a trial and error thing. You need to find the right combination of good bacteria for you.

When one takes antibiotics, it disrupts and destroys all types of bacteria in the gut, including the good. Hence it is a good reason to use probiotics anyway but especially while on antibiotics. Yogurt contain some cultures but it doesn't contain enough.

I have already gone 6 times today, no cramps its just all water stool.

What strains does it have in it? You can also do a search on HW by clicking on Search located on the upper dark blue bar. Type in probiotics to get more information about them.

I hope this works for you...if I am not mistaken, I *think* that you have to take a probiotic 1/2 hour before the antibiotic or 2 hours after.

Btw, I had to take Cipro (I can't remember what for) and it caused me to have massive watery D, so I stopped it and was put on another antibiotic Zithromyacin. And it did not cause C. Diff, after I switched everything went back to normal. Is there any way that you can take another antibiotic?

I just came off Ceftin which I took for a sinus infection.

Whether you have UC or not you should always supplement your diet with probiotics as most antibiotics destroy the good organisms in your gastro tract.

I take VSL#3 and swear by it. That is what works for me.

Whatever you do don't cut back on the dosage of Ceftin, get rid of the infection. Otherwise you just prolong the problem.

Personally I try to avoid antibiotics because they so trash my gastro health.

As others have already stated take a probiotic that works for you. That will help you all the time.

ps you can get VSL#3 at most pharmacy's, you need to ask for it as it is refrigerated.

Florastor (S-Boulardii):  It is a yeast probiotic that will NOT be effected by the abx.  It is often prescribed to combat "D" while on abx.  If you take other probiotics, they are probably bacteria based and will need to be taken a few hours between your abx doses.  Florastor can be picked up at Walgreens for $20.  Good luck.
