On 12/16/11 I had a colonoscopy and my GI said that 90% of the illness gone. I stopped the medication Apriso 3 weeks ago and today I noticed blood in my stool. I'm in stress and feeling strange.
Sometimes I have a stabbing feeling in the stomach.
I'm almost in remission according to my doctor why I'm bleeding?
Dignosed UC 9/1/11
Lialda 2 tbs 2x I stopped bc hair loss
Apriso for 3 weeks I stopped bc hair loss continue
Probiotics
Multivitamin
Gluten free diet

Just because you are in remission doesn't mean that you should stop the meds. The meds are what keeps you in remission..granted you may be able to take a lower amount...when I'm flaring I take 4 Lialda and use Rowasa enemas (they knock out the bleeding for me) nightly. When I am in remission I take 2 Lialda a day and use an enema once a week. You may be starting a flare because you stopped your meds. I see you quit because of hair loss...I will tell you I would rather have thinning hair then an inflamed colon...just my opinion though.

I agree w/ sherbear46. I would def keep taking the meds, but at a maintenace dose. I would not want to do anything that would jeopordize the remission. Just my opinion.

stopped the meds? LOL...

Just because you improved, it's not a reason to stop meds.
I take it the not healed part was the rectum/maybe into the sigmoid....did the doc NOT put you on RECTAL MEDS?

Call the doc and get in asap, or request rectal meds (I would suggest Rowasa retention enemas)

Get back on the Apriso...what dosage were you on?

Methinks you're confusing the reasons for your hairloss....

I have never been able to reduce the dose of my meds very much, nevermind stopping them. UC is a chronic illness that requires daily medication for most patients. There is a small number here who are able to treat with diet and supplements but the majortiy of us require medication to remain flare free. Please call your GI and see about continuing your Apriso indefinitely.
