It can be done I was in a really bad place depression using 2 enemas a day predisol and salofaulk I could not see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am a mum of three the youngest has just turned 4 so getting bowel cancer in 10 years is not the option I want. I had been diagnosed over 18monthes prior and my colitis had never been in remission, I had one week there and one week there when the symptoms where almost non existant but apart from that I struggled through my every day avoiding going out. Scared of embacing moments, running to the toilet as I had no control over my bowel basically at all. Depression, anxiety, embaracement, disgust, discrace, very unsexy are only a few of the feelings avoid going to bed as I new I had to have another enema.
An australian naturopath gave me a diet which I stuck too and put me on a course of supplements prior I was losing at least 3 cups of mucous and blood a day had no pattern of doing number 2's and took spare underpants everywhere I went. This is the diet and the supplements she prescribed all natural and they did the trick in just 7 weeks. I am still on that diet and made it through Christmas had a little red meat and was alittle nuaghty. I am now on a maintenance regime and the diet and it has been monthes with only very slight signs of blood in the stool.
Subject: Diet by Naturopath, it says politely AVOID that means DON'T EAT my naturopath is very polite and diplomatic she is lovely and I have never been to her for a consultation she cured me from another state in Australia I told her what I had how it affected me she researched it for about 3 weeks before coming to a conclusive diet and was very pleased when it worked in 7 weeks
Ulcerative Colitis
Diet:-
1) Eat small regular meals (5-6 small meals daily)
2) Include some protein in each meal. Choose from:- eggs, organic chicken, organic turkey, steamed or grilled fish. (I being Annette actually poach Tasmanian Salmon) Limit consumption of beef and pork avoid mince sausages, deli meats, smoked meats, cured meats, salami, shellfish, prawn, crab, oyster, mussels, smoked fish and canned fish.
3) Eat plenty of fresh vegetables. If you can’t tolerate them raw, steam them. You want to aim for 3-6 cups of vegetables daily. Avoid pickled or canned vegetables. Limit Potato and corn. Eat Organic where possible. Do not microwave or fry vegetables. Lightly steamed is best./
4) Limit fruit to 2 serves daily due to its high sugar content. Consume fresh fruit rather than tinned and eat organic where possible. Avoid acidic fruits oranges and grapefruits.
5) Avoid lactose containing foods, milk, ice-cream, cottage cheese.
6) Avoid gluten containing foods. Bread, wheat, pasta, couscous, rye, cakes, biscuits, cereals, muesli bars. Many processed foods contain wheat gluten. You will need to check labels and look for ones that say ‘Gluten free’. The possible exception here is oats which are mucopolysacchorides and may help with mucous membrane repair.
7) Grains to include would be brown rice, barley, millet, buckwheat, replace bread with rice cakes or gluten free breads. Limit grains to 1 serve daily (about 30grams).
8) Drink plenty of water 1.5-2 liters daily. (filtered is best) Other drinks could include cabbage juice 9which has ulcer healing properties)
, carrot juice and green drinks such as barley grass or spirulina, or vital greens. Ginger is a powerfully anti-inflammatory, so ginger tea could be useful. ( I use a Ginger tea from the Chinese shop that comes in a glass jar and in a jelly type format and you keep it in the fridge after opening it is Ginger and Honey tea).
9) Avoid carbonated soft drinks, spicy foods and anything containing caffeine, as these can irritate the colon.
10) Use sea salt rather than table salt. Avoid processed dressings/sauces. As condiments use home - made dressings, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, hommous home-made guacamole.
Have for Breakfast make up a shake. Add Rejuven X and Vital greens to 300mls or rice milk. For the first 2 weeks start with ½ scoop of rejuven x and 1 teaspoon of vital greens and 1/2 teaspoon of Natren Lifestart,(when Lifestart finishes more on to Trenev Trio), then increase to 1 scoop of rejuven x and 2 teaspoons of vital greens. Also take Boswellia complex for first 2 weeks 1 tablet at breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime then drop back to 1 tablet breakfast and dinner.
Initially if the colon is very irritated have liquid meals, cook meat and vegetables then puree them into soup.
Rejuven X is made by BIOCeuticals I have it in 700gm containers it helps rejuvenate the cells of the bowel and intestine and is imperetive to the healing process I figured out as my body is better when i take this. this is by Naturopath perscript ion only is the foundation of my everyday function.
Vital Greens in a phyto-nutrient superfood and I have it in a 600gm container and must be kept in the fridge once opened.
Natren Lifestart must be kept refridgerated even when travelling home from shop .
Boswellia complex, is made by MEDI HERB comes in a 60 tablet bottle and is for practitioner dispensing only. It strengthens or rejuvenates the muscles I looked it up on line, and my naturopath said it works as an anti-inflammitory.
I am also on Trenev Trio tablet which is dairy free and helps maintain healthy intestinal flora aids digestion and absorption, I take 1 at breakfast and dinner. 30 capsules and must be refridgerated from purchase travelling home in car and once you get home.
Metagenics MetaPure EPA/DHA which is highly purified and concentrated Marine Lipids 240 capsules I take 2 capsules breakfast and dinner.
So basically this is my diet and I cheated and had 2 slices of white bread with a cooked hot chicken one night and I really noticed how much it upset me, I have incorporated Food for Health life food, the Liver cleansing Muesli from the health food section of your supermarket, I cannot drink carrot juice, l like Charlies Spirulina, have tried several gluten free breads and have it as toast, honey and oats is good, I find I have to freeze it in lots of 2 or it gets thrown out. So I must admit I feel better down stairs and am at least using my bowels EVERY DAY AND HAVE LOST WEIGHT MY MENABALISM IS FASTER, more for what they are intended it is having a positive affect on other symptoms of my condition. Must admit I don’t like the word condition as much as I used too.
Hope this is helpful PEOPLE . Just remember apples, bananas, tomatoes, alpha alpha, Chinese cold rolls use rice paper, advocado, sweet potato, raw broccoli, bean sprouts, loTSor chinese and japanese noodles are made of rice flour, the laterative gluten free pasta is great espaecially the spiral that are brown rice, beetroot and spinich, I add more brown rice gluten free spiral to make it go farther. I make my own sauce from fresh tomatoes, italian herbs, fresh garlic, small amount of sugar and sea salt, chopped capsicum and mushroom and grated carrot and tomatoe puree. so I have that the family has the normal pasta, remember to think outside the square. It can be interesting and inviting.

Poached Salmon with bok choy and lightly steamed broccoli is also nice with sea salt and black pepper.

I thought I was done for I have been healthy and medication free now since the
11th November 2011. I am now on a maintence program which is:
300ml shake of 1/2 scoup of Rejuven X and 1 tsp of Vital Greens twice daily morning and night with your meal I take mine during eating my meals and 1 tablet twice daily of boswellia complex.
This has saved my life I am now happy, I wear once pair of underpants and I dont take a spare pair anywhere, I visited my gastro Dr and told hime the good news and bad news, good news he wanted first I told him I am in remission and am not going back to see him again, he then wanted the bad news. I told him he had nothing to do with making me well I showed him the rejuven x container and he said this has some really good things in it. But it is no PBA aprooved, I answered what a pity as life for ulcerative colitis patients is full of depression, anxiousness and very little hope I only wish everyone could feel as good as I do now. All the mums at school said how great I look and even a couple of the dads commented looking hot, my skin is clear must be the healthy diet.
It was exlensive to begin with, and I had alot of family support from my brother and mother who have kindly brought me the first 6 monthes +, worth of supplements which I still now have, as I started my diet on Friday 16 September 2011, that is 111 days ago.
Yes I had caffine withdrawral symtoms and I still crave coffee have cheated and tried it a couple of times. It now tastes aweful and I only ever drink 1/2 cup and then straight to the toilet, coffee was not as hard to give up as I thought. Good luck of this helps anyone else then I am glad I shared what worked for me. I would like to see UC nipped in the bud get people off medication and living a normal life again like me. I just want to live my dreams be an active mum of 3 beautiful children and my wonderful husband. Iwant to see them walk down the isle and hold my grandchildren, and I don't want an colostimy bag or bowel cancer. It is a life style choice and I never thougth I would be able to do it and if you had asked me back in September that I would feel this good, my answer would have been "I doubt it this is a life sentence".
