So my husband just called they are releasing him from the ER and they did some tests his levels are fine but the dr said he does not think it is the UC casusign him to have cramping and diahreae 20 plus times he said the xray showed his intestines are full of feces and that he is just constipated becuase they are blocked????  Does this make sense to anyone, I thought blockage is dangerous.  I know when I am constipated, nothing comes out, espeically diahreah!  Any help would be appreciated.  Told my hubby he needs to call his dr ASAP in the morning.

That doesn't make much sense to me either...unless nothing much is coming out with his diarrhea. Sometimes, I was just having blood and mucous come out when I was super sick. UC can cause constipation too...that was my first sign of a flare. Hope he is okay. Did the ER give him any advice? They usually aren't very helpful for things like this.

Diarrhea is creeping around the blocked stool, I think.

When you asked earlier about enemas...was it because the doctor mentioned using an enema?

If so, perhaps he was talking about using an enema to deal with the blockage.
It's an alternative to taking a laxative.
You would probably not use a medicated enema for that purpose.

Consulting your doctor is a good idea.

Does he have proctitis or lower inflammation? This can cause constipation and this is not the same as a "blockage". I'm guessing (?) this is what your GI was saying and that's why he wants your husband to do enemas (to address the lower/rectal inflammation and the constipation). Could that be it? Then the diarrhea is getting past the stool in the intestine. Apparently, that's not uncommon, they even have a name for it, can't remember what it's called?

I think the doctor is wrong saying the UC is not causing the problem. UC causes D as well as C. He can be blocked and still having D, others have reported that on this forum.

Why is his GI doctor not being involved with the hospitalization? Yes your husband needs to see his GI ASAP to deal with the blockage. If his GI is not attentive enough then find another GI (which could take some time) and use mesalamine enemas plus oral meds in the meantime to get the inflammation down. Drink lots of water too but it's the inflammation that is causing the problems.

Maybe oral steroids are needed but that should be a GI discussion item.
