My anniversary....

Not sure how to respond to your post....
It's sad that you've had UC for 20 years but I applaud you for keeping a sense of humor.

Have you tried alternative treatments?
I'm having success with slippery elm, LDN and diet adjustments.

Lol...yeah, I bet people are thinking....should I even wish a happy anniversary??? :D

I have tried it all over the years (supplements, probiotics, diet modifications including SCD etc) except for LDN since it seems to be relatively new. But at this point, I am just tired. It gets to that point where you just stop trying ya know?

My mindset is I can't let things get me down or let Uc rule my life. I've done some incredible things with my life such as taking a 1,300 round trip on the back of a motorcycle, not once but twice (got caught in severe rain storms and scorching heat). I have a very rich and fulfilling life with wonderful friends and a loving family. Here's the ole saying: I have Uc but Uc doesn't have me :)

Well, one thing in your case is clear above all else: You've obviously turned the tables on this vicious disease, making the very best of your adversity. That, sir, by any definition is victory. It is also a demonstration of emotional maturity. The alternative was to have fallen into self-pity and a life long despond. You haven't done that. Good show!

20 years of UC! Not sure if I should celebrate or have a cry for us.

Sherry have you ever thought about the party pooper at your party? You might be stuck with lots of them!!! lol

20 f..ing years...wow that's messed up. I bet you're tired of crapping. You probably crapped more times in those 20 years, than 20 people in all their life times. LOL

Wow! It does make us newbies realize that we can get through this and we are not alone. We do have UC, It don't have us. I do believe challenges like this makes us stronger. I almost lost my life because they almost missed the gangrene in my colon because all of the blood. It gave me a new outlook on life. Even though I'm stuck dealing with this disease. God gave me this life to fight for and I am going to make him proud. With the help of this sight, I know I will get through this.

So we do have reason to party. To show we are not going down without a strong battle. There will be a cure someday. I think the fecal transplant is a step in the right direction.

Look at it this way. All the craping we do keeps the sewer sucker workers employed. Job security :)

Aw, Sherry! Thanks for helping all of us out with your insights & good humor. Congrats on 20 yrs of subduing King Colon, too, while fighting off other nagging ailments. You are definitely an inspiration. / Old Hat (31 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Poor old colon is still kicking! Congrats:)

Btw, my Uc is under control NOW but I think I earned it :) I know many people would've thrown in the towel sooner but I am an eternal optimist. I would always tell myself that it will get better and for the most part it did. Than things would go down hill and the circle continued.

Maybe I am holding out for a cure someday.

Over the years, I've had many ups and downs; lots of tears spilled. But I just had to pick up the pieces and continue on. What other choice is there? I would rather be that person who people wants to be around and not the person that people avoid. Perhaps it had do with the fact that I have Uc since I was 22 and my whole life revolved around bathrooms. I know my limitations and I don't have high aspirations so I don't get that disappointment of not achieving. I take a look at the things that I CAN do and not the things that I CAN'T. :)
