New Member Strugging with Flare up while on Humira.

Hello all...this is my first time on here...I have been diagnosed with UC originally in 1993 at age 25, after my 2nd child.....basic UC symptoms....I used various meds in the beginning..some I can’t remember the names...Asocal, Rowasa, etc...none really seemed to work...I'd have flares here and there throughout the years but nothing serious until about 2002...My flare went crazy and I ended up in the hospital 2 sep times for 1 wk each.  I was dehydrated and low on potassium...I began to get huge mouth ulcers and my doctors changed my diagnosis to Crohns Disease....They put me on 6mp and Remicaid.  This seemed to work well for me.  I was on Remicaid for three years when my joints...especially my nuckles..would swell and hurt like crazy...my doctor didn't know if that was reaction to the medication, he call serum sickness, so he switched my Remicaid to Humira.  The Humira worked great and I went into remission for 7 years....7 wonderful years.  I am now 43 and Last May my disease resurfaced with a vengeance.  It’s been horrible.  Bleeding constantly.  I was in the hospital a few months ago for a blood transfusion for so much blood loss.  I bleed daily...its painful to have a bm, I cramp a lot, I have accidents at work (which is getting harder and harder to do) and at home...esp at night.  My current doctor does not believe I have Crohns...but instead UC...regardless of the mouth ulcers.  We decided to quit the Humira and retry the Remicaid again.  I had my first infusion 2 weeks ago.  I had my second infusion yesterday and it didn't go well.  After about 15 min of the infusion my body got so hot I felt I was on fire.  My hands were bright red.  My chest hurt but my throat didnt feel like it was closing and I didn’t get hives.  As the redness and hotness subsided, I had terrible pain in my chest, lower back and upper hips.  I really thought I was having a heart attack.  It was very scary.   They immediately took me off the iv and I felt better after about  30 min.  This was not your usual Remicaid reaction with hives, etc.  Has anyone had this same reaction.  My doctor is now afraid I have built up antibodies to Remicaid.   There really aren’t many options for me except surgery and that scares me to death.  I really don’t understand fecal transplant...heard about it for the first time today on here.  Well if anyone has any info that would help me make some decisions please let me know.   [added subject] Post Edited By Moderator (notsosicklygirl) : 2/2/2012 3:45:33 PM (GMT-7)

Hello and Welcome... I don't have any advice on your remicaid situation but can tell you that I believe in natural supplements and know they have helped me alot!
Have you tried any supplements?

Not sure if you are still around.... but I have to comment just in case. What happened to you while on Remicade happened to me. Exactly. It was my second time on it, and my second infusion. My lips, hand, heart... everything was crazy. My doctor told my I can no longer be on Remi, as I had built up antibodies. I had been pre-medicated with benadryl even.

I am not on Humira, since August, and just started a flare. :( So sad. Not sure what I can do next... I am alergic to all 'Pentasa' like drugs.

I am wondering... have you kept your colon?
