dark flecks in BM

Hi folks. Quick question- I had some dark brown/black flecks in my BM this morning. Undigested food?? Had steak and a bar of chocolate last night.

I'm getting into remission now and have had light brown soft BM's once a day for the last 3 wks., nothing abnormal except pea and corn shells.

--Not fully diagnosed yet, went to ER with bloody poop Dec. 7 '11. Scoped both ways- Gastro looked fine, Intestines were so flared doc couldn't go up all the way.
2-3 more wks of flare and feeling great now. Doc. said yesterday that it's either left-sided or Ischemic (??). Setup for another colonoscopy mid March.
Asacol- 4 pills a day.

Both the steak and the chocolate contain lots of fat and fats require bile to digest. A fatty diet is more likely to produce a darker colored stool than a low fat diet. Beyond that, God knows what might be responsible for the color change you are experiencing. The good news is that you are on the mend. A little surprised to read that 1600 mgs of Asacol did the job of reversing your flare. Am I understanding you properly?
