Hello
I tried almost all the meds for colitis
The only medicine that helped me is Imuran. The problem is after I have been on 100 mg Imuran for a year, my Immune system Decreased too low and I had to stop Imuran
The same thing happened to me with 6mp
I tried Remicade and Humira without success
Do you think that I should try Imuran again? I dont want to take it if the med will lower the Immune system

What kind of symptoms are you having at the present? If they are severe and you can not take the conventional 5-ASA's, you can try the LDN that everyone is talking about, diet modification, Fecal transplant....Personally, if I was you, I wouldn't even attempt the Imuran again especially if both 6mp and Imuran caused your WBC to drop. But perhaps you should discuss this with your doctor?

If all these meds have failed you, you may find the possibility of surgery in the future I'm sad to say :(

I started Imuran many years ago, at first, the issue that my GI and I worked on was getting the lowest dose possible for my weight.
Once the low dose is established (by a PROMETHEUS test), I was very comfortable taking the drug.
In my experience, I've had no immune system problems and it's kept me fairly well for over 8 years. I still have seasonal flares occasionally, but the severity and length of the flares has decreased dramatically.
I've had no side effects but I still get my blood work done religiously to head-off any problems that might come along.
This drug has basically given me my life back. I strongly encourage you to talk to your doc try it again and get the dose down.

BeatUc brings up a good point. Perhaps see if you can tolerate a lowered dose?

I talked with my doctor about the possibility to start imuran again at lower dose
He said to me that 100 mg is considered low dose
I took few 5 ASA drug over the years without big change like Pentasa, Asacol and enemas
My weight is 65 kg

I am on 25mg of 6mp and that's way lower than the normal dose. I don't think it's fair for your GI to disqualify it as an option. I think LDN would be worth trying in your case. I have the same problem with 6mp, my wbc keeps dropping but my GI is openminded and willing to work with me so I've been on a very low dose + seeing a hematologist. I am hopng I will be able to continue managing things as I am for a while.
