How often do you wait before you call your doctor during a flare?

Or is there no need to call at all? I just went into "remission" about a month ago, and was in the hospital for three weeks. This current bout has been going on for a week now. I have called my doctor (no word back yet), but was just wondering what's the norm? Should you call your doctor when you're flaring again?

I try to keep my GI in the loop when I am experiencing symptoms. In my case, it depends how long I've been experiencing symptoms but a week is probably long enough to know that you need to do something to get back on track. A few times I've called my doctor too soon and I've gotten better without additional medication and in those cases I felt bad wasting her time but I think it's better to geet started on a plan than to sit back and let things progress too much.

What medications are you taking?

I am currently on Lialda, Prozac, Phenergan, Bentyl, Tylenol, and ativan.

When it first started I thought it was a one off, but then it kept happening and I'm ashamed to say I had an accident. Honestly, out of this all, that's what I hate the most. Makes me feel hopeless

I always keep a stash of cortifoam handy so if i feel a flare coming on I start with that once a day or move to twice a day. If things get worse I definitely make an appointment and see my GI ASAP. During my current flare I have had some ups and downs with prednisone so we have been calling and texting on a regular basis---yes even on the weekend! In fact he expects me to text him every 3-5 days to tell him how the taper is going.

Don't worry about "bothering" the doctor. Remember that you pay for these services and you need to stay healthy. It is always better to call early and get the symptoms under control rather than too late and suffer unnecessarily.

I usually wait until the symptoms get a little too much, but thats me. i would advise anyone else to go at the first sign of symptoms.

That was quick..thankfully. I hope he takes a quick look-see with a rectoscope, has you do stool testing samples and puts you on rectal meds. Is there a reason you're not on them?
