I have been off work for a couple months and was thinking of trying to do work online.
Do any of you currently work online for a legitimate business?

I know some people who have had luck finding at-home work. I am trying to find something stable where I can work from home but I haven't had too much luck so far.

It seems as though everything online is a scam. Wish i could find something reliable

The only online businesses I can think of, are non-traditional businesses where you would almost freelance your individual work online.

-Journalists/writers/editors/bloggers
-Graphic designers/website design

I run my business from home (software development) but I don't have anything that I need help with at this stage sorry. You are still welcome to send me a PM and tell me about yourself if you are a software developer and really keen, if there is a will there is a way.

Best way to search for legit work from home jobs:

-Use search terms REMOTE and TELECOMMUTE on indeed.com

 This is a job search engine that pulls job postings from multiple sites.

I have seen many customer service oriented jobs from reputable companies.  U-Haul was hiring for reservations staff.  There is also a large health care company that hires. 

-I have seen LOTS of medical related jobs, such as coding.

Dice.com has a remote search option. These are all technical positions. I do most of my work using large Oracle Databases from home and today I got an email asking me to help out a company who's database had crashed with corruption problems. Sounded like if I bail them out its a 6-month remote gig I can stack onto my current gig which has been coming down from 98 hours per week the last 4 weeks. Looking for an average of 60 before I move into my new home in 4 weeks. My friend has 2 full-time jobs working from home handling large databases for a Telecom company on the west coast and a hospital software company. Neither company knows about the other but he monitors both very closely and is responsive to emergencies and gets his project work done. They are happy as clams.

The advertised jobs about the good money for not doing anything particularly challenging skill wise are totally bogus. You can got to self-test software and download a certification bundle and take the plunge. Networks/Java/Databases. Companies that insist on office time are outdated slave ships but good places to build experience or good places for regular paychecks if the economy is in the dumpster. I turned down a cozy work from home gig with the forest service managing database guys. Before you work remote you want to have learned all you need to from other people especially if your working in unix/linux environments.

I work from home in a home based business in the health and wellness industry, so it's been the perfect fit. One of the main products that I sell has helped with my colitis and has saved me some money with supplements, etc. So it has been a win-win for me. I was in the same boat that you was in back in 2010 after I was laid off from my job. I needed income to support myself and so I started with my own online business first and then later partnered with a national fitness company and started a home based business and found that this has been the best position for me in terms of support, training, and income. Good luck with your search. I'm not sure if you are interested in starting your own business or in working a regular telemarketing job from home, but whatever you do make sure you check the credentials of the company b/c there are a lot of scams out there.
