Question about urgency when not having a flare

How urgently do you guys need to get to the toilet when you are in remission? Do you still have urgency or can you manage your visits more like prior to getting UC?

Prior UC I could wait hours if I had to. Which of course you really shouldn't because then the feeling could eventually pass altogether and that leads to constipation. Now I have a few minutes which is fine I'm used to it at this point.

I am the same way Carlie.

Right now I've been in remission for quite a while and I am able to hold it if I need to. As Sheri said, I don't like to hold it because I don't like when the urge passes.

+1. The urgency is a sign of flare activity. That's where I'm at right now, almost in remission but stuck with some urgency. Stubborn UP.

I don't consider myself in remission if I have urgency issues. For me, it is the first sign of inflammation followed by increased mucous and increased # of BMs and looser stools. It can happen slowly so try to catch it before it gets worse.

I currently have about 3-5 minutes- most times! Sometimes first thing in the AM, it's more like 3-5 seconds.... But I consider myself to be doing really well these days, I can deal with some urgency, as long as it's not urgency 10+ times a day, you know? I have my usual morning bm's with various degrees of urgency, generally anywhere from 3-8 trips (8 is definitely a high amount, & not the norm). Then I'm basically done for the day. I may go again an hour or so after lunch, but that's it.

I had a flareup and had 12 bowl movements a day with urgency. I was switched from Asacol and oral predisone to Mezvant and Entocort enemas (found it pretty gay, but it really helps alot better). Entocort is such a life saver for putting colitis into remission.

When using Asacol I had 2-3 bowl movements a day with about 5-10 minute urgency before I had to go. With Mezavant I only go once a day, using after I eat breakfast with no urgency.

isn't Mezavant the same chemical as Asacol just under a different name?
