Very good questions all around-- I don't know all of those specifics. I did have biopsies done, inflammation is rectal only; there is bleeding, not a lot, but some.
I had the most problems with mucus, mild bleeding, pain and fullness.
I did fine on the enemas -- meaning I stopped bleeding and healed, but I remained constipated. After my last scope during a flare, the GI said that my inflammation wasn't high enough to warrant the enemas any longer. He would not give Rx for them and I didn't push it at the time; I just hit the Canasa 2x daily until back in better shape. I should not have stopped canasa when I felt better, I should probably have kept at it every other night or so. Either way, the rectal meds have never improved my constipation issues.
I have pretty well sorted it out with using the Mag and the Vit C; but even with the dosages that I am on, I still might not go. That is why I am just getting people's opinion about the glycerin supps. I don't think they can hurt if I am uncomfortable and I really feel like I need to go. I have used them in the past with plenty of success. What I don't want to be doing is hurting my rectum in the process - that is my main concern. I figure if I use glycerin, I will always follow up everything with a Canasa. I once had a GI say to use on every day if I wanted to, but I never fully trusted a lot of his advice and I moved on to another GI.
Funny thing is I have taken as much as 10,000mgs of Vit C at a time for a period of time with no result at all. The C and the Mag together as a daily supplement seems to be right for me.
I have tried Cortifoam or proctofoam --are those steroid? They caused me to bleed quite a bit more that I had been already.
I have always been constipated, even before all of this started up-- and yes, I have tried it all -- high fiber, low fiber, dried fruit, psyllium (the worst for me!!), Citrucel -- did work some, more water, less water, Dr. Shultze's formula 2 -- nothing but herb laxatives, exercise etc etc etc. I was on a super high fiber diet when all of this started just for that reason-- I have attributed an imbalance in my gut flora due to lots of fiber sitting around in an unmoving colon for a long time.
