Has any females had changes, mine is almost non existent, still regular, but hardly anything. I have had that all checked recently. Also a lot of discharge, clear, but I actually thought it was anal mucus, but realized it might be vaginal. I guess it could be all the meds and stress, but I think I sm headed to early menopause.

Have you lost a lot of weight? I personally get almost nothing now but it happened after I re-started the birth control pill. It's still regular but doesn't last long and is very light. I know a lot of people have a connection with their UC and mestrual cycles though.

I am not sure what state of flare or remission you are in. When I was at the worst of my flare, I missed 3 months of my period. I thought the same thing, that maybe I was starting menopause, but no. It came back when I went into remission. Now, it is not quite the same as before... it seems to come not quite like clockwork the same number of days between each period, and it is not as heavy as before. But I am quite sure that it is due to perimenopause, I am at that age. My mom entered menopause at age 48 so I am on track for that.

I firmly believe that I am starting menopause and that contributed to my UC. (I am really 45 years old but started "crashing" when I hit 40 LOL)

In 2010, I started experiencing perimenopause symptoms, so my Ob/GYN put me on the pill to at least settle some of my hormones. I took them for about a year, then decided that I was just going to ride it out. I stopped the pill January 2011. Had no period until May. Along with it came the beginning of my flare. I had nothing until September when I got another period and that was only after I started the 40 mg of Prednisone. Nothing in October or November, but in December, it was heavier than I had ever experienced in my whole life! I mean like a couldn't leave the house type flow for about 2 days. Whole thing lasted over 10 days. Nothing in January. Again a heavy but really short (about 3 days) one first part of February. Nothing since.

So yes... UC screws up everything. Ain't it fun being a woman!

Yeah, and getting old is fun too. Hair loss is my other big issue.

Loss isn't my issue... I've been on Prednisone so long that my mustache is getting better than my 17 yr. old son's!

If you think you might be starting menapause, go to your GYN and have them do a sonagram of your ovaries. There is also a blood test that will tell if you are starting menapause.

Michelejc, is there a reason it is necessary to do that? I've never heard of this and now my mom is no longer around to ask these types of questions. :(

I thought menopause just comes when it comes and you just ride it out or seek medical attention if anything becomes unbearable.

Wow this thread is coming at just the right time here! I am 46 years old and my mother had a hysterectomy by 40, so I have no one to really ask about this! In October I had one of the heaviest periods I have had, pain all over and passing golf ball size clots, this lasted for a week. Nothing in Nov and light spotting in Dec, Jan hit with another heavy flow for 12 days and Feb was light spotting then March I've been bleeding for 3 weeks and this is getting really old!!!! Dont' know if any of this is related to Crohn's, UC, IBS or just age, but I have an appt with GYN tomorrow. On top of all of this, it is believed that I have a urinary stricture, a CT scan is showing cysts on my ovaries and 2 small lymph nodes some where in there!! But according to the urologist my bladder is OK! I give up!! all of this is hitting me in less than a year. The bowels are not under control and neither is anything else obviously! Oh well, one day at a time!

Tess34 sounds like we are in the same boat!! If an older woman that I work with hadn't told me one day about the period had before she completely went through menopause, I would have gone to the ER when that horrible heavy hit me!

Have you noticed any differences in your flare when you have your heavy period? It seems like my flare tends to calm alittle when my period actually is going. I have joked that it seems my body just wants to bleed.

A good thing that has come out of all of this for me is that I realized the other day that I haven't had a migraine or even a headache since UC came into my life last May. Weird huh?

@40&crashing now that you mention it, yes it has been a little calmer since all of this started, but I am also a month into a new med. So I'm not sure I can honestly answer you here. This is interesting we were diagnosed around the same time, mine was first Crohn's, but scope this month as revealed everything else!! But whether from the meds or the bleeding, the gas and bloating in my belly is lighter than it has been. See I am on the constipated side of things most of the time. I can't go, but when I finally do break loose, it's in the form of diarrhea after the initial push!

I have a follow up with GI in a couple weeks and I'm going to ask for some other med or trying to go with more natural remedy here. I don't like the side effects of Apriso and 6MP. Somehow I have to get this settled down so I can eat fresh fruit and vegies, as I can't do it right now. We will see, time will tell!!
