What is best Rowasa or Steriod enemas?

 I was going to try steriod enemas. They don't enter the system like taking them orally do they? What's the name of some steriod enemas I should ask my GI for?

Steroid enemas will have some very small systemic absorption. You should not plan on using them for an extended amount of time as they can damage the tissue in your rectum after long use.

My personal experience was that a mix of the ASA enemas and asacol pills did a great job together.
Do you want the steroid enemas because you are in a bad flare?
Do you have your doctor opinion on that?

The good thing about the regular enemas is that they can be used several times weekly and long term wich im not sure you can with steroid ones. However im sure you can ask your doctor depending on your type of flare for whats best for you.

I asked my doctor lately about the asa or the steroids and he said straight away the asa. Less invasive. He said they implied sometimes side effects. He said better go slowly but surely. But then again never got the 10 times a day bloody diarrhea.

I would talk options with your doctor.

My doc it good to some extent. She wants to push drugs nothing else.  I would switch but every new GI they all want to do scopes first, I've done four already! No Thanks!

Like today, I've been to the bathroom, bloody, painful diarreah about 10 times. I had a big salad yesterday, I think is tearing me up!

Steroid enemas have approximately 5-8mgs of steroid that actually enters the blood stream. Very little, however, if used long term it can have an accumulative affect.

Usually steroid enemas are used to tame a flare if Rowasa doesn't and most times once it's under control, the steroid enema is not needed anymore and you can maintain it with Rowasa.

Personally when I am in a flare the only type of enema that gives me improvement is the Rowasa. I am however on prednisone and I believe the combination of the two really make a difference.

Before I was on prednisone I tried the steroid enemas alone and saw no difference. I then tried Rowasa and saw a slight improvement but my flare was too severet to be treated only with enemas.
