One more opinion about me going on Remicade.

I will of course be asking my Uroligist and my colitis doc these questions, as I have an appointment with both this month.

But I get reoccurring serious kidney infections (close to sepsis) and 3 times have had to be hospitalized.  They say it's from ecoli (that we all have in our system I guess).

Anyhow, my thoughts were if they will want to take the chance and put me on Remicade, with that in my history.

Anyone want to comment?

I feel if you get a lot of infections, then Remicade isn't a good idea. It really weekens your immune system and on the Remicade website, it specifically says that you cannot get infusions while there is an infection in your body. Granted, my doctors usually overlooked that warning and that is why I no longer get infusions (also, wasn't keeping me in remission). I was also on 6mp at the time as well and was not able to stay in remission.

How are your symptoms? Is your colitis serious enough to need biologics? When you think about Remicade, it's a really weird drug to have in our bodies. It's basically the antibodies that mice have produced against Tumor Necrosis Factor. Since our body doesn't create antibodies against it naturally, we get injected with the mice's antibodies in hopes that it will fight our own production of TNF.

Remicade will seriously compromise your immune system so if you are that prone to infections, it's going to be a gamble. I would be very cautious about it.
