Remicade question? - Doasage?

Wow...I'm pretty sure my dosing was 5mg/kg but I know how much also depends on your weight. They upped me to 10mg/kg when the 5 wasn't working. When that didn't work either I was done with it.

Hopefully someone will come along with more knowledge of Remicade. I was only on it a short time. It is made from a mouse protein. Your immune system can be compromised so you have to be careful not to expose yourself around sick people. I hope they explained to you all the risks of taking it for your knowledge as it is a very strong drug. I has been a miracle drug for many people. My mom is on it to treat her RA and it has done wonders for her.

The schedule you've described is different than the one usually used for Remicade. The normal induction for Remi is infusions on week 1, then two weeks later, then 30 days later. Maintenance is usually every 8 weeks, although some people who break through get infusions every 6 weeks. The usual starting dose is 5 mg/kg of body weight; it can be increased to 10 mg/kg if the person doesn't have complete success at the lower dose.

That said, there's no reason studies of different dosing and different schedules couldn't be going on now. Since nearly half of people with UC fail Remicade with the usual protocol, perhaps the manufacturer wants to look at other options for its administration to see if they work for those people.

Are you in the UK? I know Remi was not approved for maintenance there because of the high failure rate (and the cost, probably), so it could be they're looking at other possibilities. At any rate, I'm glad you're feeling better and hope it continues for you. Let us know how it goes, please.

i was on 5mg/kg but then my doc wanted to up me to 10mg/kg. i didnt want to do this because i felt like she'd keep upping it until it worked. she's one of the doctors that is set on medicine and nothing else.
