Many people, whether or not english is their first language, have trouble with certain words. I find little tricks help me to remember how to spell certain words, which is why I added the little trick about
"lose" vs "loose".
One word I could never remember how to spell is "broccoli". For the life of me, I couldn't remember if it was "broccoli" or "brocolli". I knew one of the consonants was doubled but which one?? Then someone told me this trick: Think of broccoli as having lots of Vitamin "C"... so you need two c's. I never forget now!
Also, chili... is it "chilli" or "chili"? One l? Two l's?? I could never get it straight. I came up with this trick myself:
"Chili is one 'ell of a good meal". I thought it was so clever, but when I told my husband he just rolled his eyes. :(
