Elevated Liver Enzymes not going down after stopping 6mp?

My past couple of blood tests showed that my liver enzymes were elevated (likely due to 6MP usage). So my doctor had me get off of it for a week and get blood work again (so 7 days without the 6MP). The blood work came back and my liver enzymes are still elevated. He wants to see me later this month but I am a bit worried now. Are my liver enzymes permanently raised or is this just something that will take some time to bring down back to normal? Any information would be greatly appreciated. A bit worried about this.

I had a severely low WBC due to 6mp and it took literally 4-6 weeks for the blood to get back to normal after stopping the medication. 6mp stays in the blood for a LONG time.

Do you know what your Alkaline Phosphatase level is? It may just take a while to get the liver numbers back to the normal range however if they remain elevated then you might want to having some tests done on your liver.

I'm not certain. I'll have to ask my doctor. All I know is the liver enzyme values were fine a few months back and now they're not. :/

It's probably best to get a copy of the last few tests and do the research of what they could mean.

Are you flaring at this point?

What other meds are you on?

Yeah I've been flaring for a long time. Doc doesn't believe I've ever been in remission since diagnosis. At this point the other mess I'm on are just remicade.

My liver enzymes were really high and it took about 1.5 months for them to get back to normal after I stopped 6mp. I know 6mp stays in your system a long time after you get off it so just give it time.

I also wonder if you can research some way of liver detox. I know milk thistle is used a lot for this. But I'd consult a doc or better yet a naturopath or integrative doc.

I think you may want to give it some time. As bananagirl said, 6mp stays in the system for a long time. It's probably still effecting your liver. :( hopefully it will improve in a few weeks. Definitely contact your gi and see if there is anytthing you neeed to do to help the situation.

     My bilirubin was always twice the norm and I did have a decreased white count while on 6MP.  However, it wasn't until my pancreatic enzyme levels reached 4x the norm that my GI (former doctor) stopped the 6MP.  I had blood work done two weeks later and the bilirubin and pancreatic enzyme levels returned to normal.

     All my blood work AND my blood pressure (which was very uncontrollable because of extensive prednisone usage) is now normal.  I had a total colectomy with end ileo in 2010.  Only take one pill a day now and that is for blood pressure :-) , which is down to 110/76!!

I had my liver values high from 5ASA, took several months to get them lower.
