Had upper Gi series Today

Well, my doctor wasn't sure if I have Crohn's or UC so he sent me for an upper Gi series or barium xray. Let's just say that stuff was WAY nastier that I thought it would be. I actually almost threw up tiwce. Thank Goodness there was nothing in my stomach.

In any case, my small intestine is normal, so I'm guessing I probably have UC instead of CD, right? I mean if the inflammation is limited t my colon is that not UC?

I have my f/u appt next Tues where he will go over my test results, blood work and I'm guessing treatment plan.
In the meantime I am so incredibly bloated since my colonoscopy last week. To the point where I look pregnant. Like several months pregnant. It's terrible. And my stomach is hard as a rock and I have indigestion or stomach upset or something. I don't even know anymore. When I do it I can only manage a few bites at a time and then I feel like I just ate a huge thanksgiving meal. to the point where it feels like my stomach is stretching. Painfully stretching. I used to love soda, now I can't even manage to drink a half of can I am so incredible full. That seems like a good thing since I'm trying to lose weight except that it is incredible uncomfortable and not necessarily painful but there is some pain and discomfort. Is this normal for UC? As I've said before I am on Asacol but that is all for now. It has not helped with the rectal bleeding at all although I have been having BMs.

He said from my colonoscopy that I have inflammation in my large intestine and that I either have UC or CD, but he wanted to do more tests. I guess to determine which. I know that even if he says UC it could still end up being CD later. That's what happened to my nephew. He had lots of bloody stool and was even hospitalized for two weeks for bowel rest. After that episode they determined he had Crohn's. He's been on Remicade treatments every six months every since. Poor guy is only 11. I don't know how he does it. The Doc's had him on a special diet which my exSIL doesn't follow and my bro only has him every other weekend. It just stinks because she's a CNA so you'd think she'd no better...

Anyway, Right now I guess it's finding a diagnosis and then coming up with a treatment plan. The seven pics of my large intestines from the scope were horrible. Each pic had a different issue. In one there was black spots, in another there was like flourescent green mucous or pus or something, I'm not sure. Two of them had bumps all over like flash colored pimples. Every single picture had something wrong with it. Is that because they don't take pictures of the healthy sections, or is my whole freaking bowel like that? I wish I didn't have to wait a week before seeing him again. I mean the info they give you after the scope is pretty limited.

I guess it's just a waiting game. Funny the blood never really bothered me, or the consipation, or really the pain, but seeing those pictures really upset me. I'm glad that my upper GI is good, but now I'm worried that my lower gi is really bad. But if that was the case, I'm sure he'd have me on something stronger than asacol, right?

In the meantime, I just found a little ulcer on my tongue. Kind of like when you accidentally bite your cheek and there's that little pimple thing there. I have a really tiny one on my tongue and of course I'm freaking out that now my mouth is affected, when it's probably nothing more than I scratched it or something. idk.

I guess I just have tons of questions and worries and no answers. I've tried researchign UC but it all says the same thing. Every website makes it sound like it's just this minor upset stomach like disease. sigh. I guess I just have to wait till my appt before I find out more.

Did they make you drink Milk of Magnesia for your upper barium? They made me yrs ago, okay, decades ago so was just wondering if they use something else now or not...if it was that white chalky (MOM) they made you drink, don't be alarmed with having white poops over the next day or so, the MOM does that.

I have crohn's colitis...it's all about the pattern of inflammation besides location of disease activity...some CDers may never or might only rarely have CD affecting their small intestine (as I did for the first 2 yrs of being sick, but at that same time it was also affecting my colon and rectum and after 2 yrs, my small intestines were clear of disease activity but it's stayed constant in my colon and on and off in my rectum).

If the pattern of inflammation is patchy, then it's CD, if the entire area is inflammed, that points to UC and if the inflammation goes through layers of the intestinal lining, that points to CD since with UC the inflammation is surfaceable only.
