Hi all,
This is non-UC related though given our immune systems I'm sure it has some correlation...
I recently had an infected skin boil and was given Bactrim. I broke out in a rash on my chest shortly after starting it--the doc said I may be allergic to sulfa and switched me to Cephalexin (Keflex).
The rash has gotten worse even on the Keflex--there are small, red, non-itchy bumps all over my chest and stomach. Doesn't bother me at all, but definitely spreading and will see if I can get into an urgent care center tomorrow.
Has anyone else had a similar reaction to antibiotics? My googling around has told me that some antibiotics can cause rashes like this, but I can't find any more specific info.
Thanks!

I get a lot of rashes. Mine really has no rhyme nor reason sometimes. But normally I take Benedryl to combat them and it works like a charm. It could be that the Bactrim started the ball rolling and your crazy immune system is all stirred up. Hopefully it will settle down for you soon.

Many years ago, I tested out as allergic to tetracycline products and my symptoms were, among other things, a rash, fatigue, and irritability.

I had a severe reaction to Sulfa: rash and horrible itching all over.

I've had the rashes and itching due to penicillin--it means that you're allergic to it.

Funny this came up. I was recently on antibiotics (amoxicillan) for the first time since starting Imuran. Developed an itchy annoying rash on my legs and never had a problem w/ antibiotics in the past.

Yes, I'm allergic to the penicillin family. Hives are 1 of the side effects they gave me. RE Keflex-- I was Rxed that drug decades back for recurrent tonsilitis and suspect it contributed to my developing UC a few yrs later. Beware! / Old Hat (31 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
