Getting ST disability coverage with UC

I've had UC for about 12 or so years. When I first got out of college and started working, I did not get short term disability coverage because I had never even had a flare. Since then I have had several flares and an now in remission with Remicade. Yay! But now my husband and I are discussing starting a family. So I applied for ST disability with my employer and was denied because if my UC. Apparently the underwriters in a group plan are required to cover you for everything when you are first eligible for coverage, but they can deny you if you apply later.

Does anyone know a private company that would insure someone with UC for short term disability?

Luckily I signed up for long term disability when I was hired.

I've raised this subject several times on this forum. I've come to the conclusion, it's a subject most here don't want to talk about, even though it's probably one of the most important issues, we with UC face.
The insurance companies are basically evil and if you are sick -they don't want to pay.
It's a sad reality.
