Has anyone tried acupuncture for UC?   Approx 20 years ago, I did acupunture for terrible headaches and it helped a lot.  I know it's not cheap.

Just wondering if I should give it a try.

If your are willing to spend the money, anything is worth a try. I tried I for a little while and it did nothing. My hubby did it at the same time as me for seasonal allergies and it helped him a lot. And yes, it was really expensive.

I tried acupuncture for my UC because I had good results with a knee problem that acupuncture fixed 100% when 2 other medical doctors could not. I used the same Chinese acu. doctor that fixed my knee but absolutely no positive results for UC. I also used Chinese herbs and Chinese probiotics, nothing.

I tried acupuncture for around 8 months. I found it very relaxing. It did not help my UC at all.

I did a few acupuncture sessions prior to being fully diagnosed, but unfortunately my disease was progressing quick and I needed medical help.

My older sister swears by acupuncture, in that it cured her of a depression she went through 2 years ago.

Acupuncture does work wonders, but in case of UC it is "only" symptom control. meaning helps reduce stress -> helps UC.

I have been doing accupuncture with one practitioner and naturopathy with another person, in combination, for the last year.  I have also been super duper obsessive about everything I eat, keeping food journals, writing EVERYTHING down, looking for patterns, etc.  I have also not been on any meds during that time other than herbal supplements.  I have my appointments approx every 2 months and no, it's not "cheap" but both are quite reasonable, and cheaper than the GI doctor I was seeing before.  I believe that something that I'm doing is working in my favor, but I can't possibly point my finger at the one thing that's "it".  Maybe it's a combination of it all, maybe it's a placebo effect, I don't give a hoot what it is as long as it works and doesn't do my body any more damage.  My 2-cents.

My integrative doc does zero balancing which is sort of like acupuncture but without the needles. It using pressure points. I seem to ave a nice poop afterwards. I only had two sessions so far.

I also like massages. It does hep ease the tension.

I had some acupuncture on Tuesday for the first time and I slept through that night without needing to get up (which i had to do multiple times the previous two nights) so i think it really helped relax me and ease my symptoms. I suspect it needs to be a very regular thing to give prolonged relief however. So I think it's a nice complimentary treatment if you can find a decent practitioner.

Acupuncture did nothing for my UC. If you can find a Massage Therapist that's knowledgable with acupressure points. Working on the stomach using those points can be very helpful. Massaging the abdominal area feels great!

I think acupuncture for UC is like every other UC treatment -- works for some people but not others. I gave it a try in my first flare and it seemed to make a big difference, but in my second flare it seemed to make no difference and I haven't tried it since.
