Faith through flares

Anyone else out there depending on God to get you through this stuff?

Im 19 I was diagnosed with uc in 2010 and have been dealing with a flare for about a little over a year now.

I am sorry you've been dealing with a flare up for such along time. My first flare lasted quite a while. I wasn't insured and I was not able to get it under control without medication. After almost a year of dealing with moderate/severe symptoms, I paid out of pocket and saw a GI, I got treatment and I felt much better. It was a struggle to afford medication but I was able to do so by ordering from Canada and utilizing PAP programs. I went on for a year on Asacol but eventually, it became much less effective and I had to take a course of prednisone...

What type of medication have you tried?

I think positive thinking can definitely help with my condition but I don't think it's the "end all be all" of UC. If it were, it would make things much simpler.

Please let us know more about yourself how were you diagnosed? what treatments have you tried?

Maybe we can help you wrap your head around this UC beast.

As for faith, it is something I try to apply to life in general, not just UC flares (though I don't necessarily relate faith to God). After watching Steve Jobs' Stanford speech last year, I also constantly remind myself that our time on earth is limited. Things pass by very quickly and thus, in essence, any difficulties will end quickly too. I definitely feel more at ease with taking risks and making big decisions with this thought process.

Absolutely!!! He wants us to, and we need to become more dependent upon Him.
My non-suffering times are so much better when my mind is not focusing the past, and future.
I praise Him for this, as I praise Him for everything.

For me personally, having U.C. has helped me to have more empathy for people who suffer with health issues, so some good can come of it.

Don't let this disease get you down. The vast majority of people end up with a good outcome, either controlling it medically or eliminating it surgically. Letting a disease like this rob you of your faith and hope would be a tragedy, so keep up the faith.

As a person of faith, you understand there is meaning and purpose for your life, so things will work out for you in the long run!

That would be a shame if you got kicked off of here because you made reference to God. I hope your meds start doing their job and get you into remission real soon! Hang in there and don't give up.

herbgarden, the OP won't get kicked off for making a reference to god. The OP might get kicked off or have his posts edited, if he follows through with this statement: "...most of my posts will probably be related to my relationship with Jesus."

I'm not a moderator, so I probably shouldn't have said anything. However, going on and on about religion in a forum that's meant for UC just isn't cool. I mean, a thread like this is ok, when one talks about faith and how it helps in dealing with UC, but threads just about religion, as the OP suggests will be coming? Um, not so much.

I suppose nssg and I are both guilty of C&P'ing w/o checking for errors!  I'm a spelling and grammar freak as well.

And yes, I agree that someone else saying, "Dudes, prayer really helps me!" isn't all that different from me saying "Yo, use enemas!" 

I have just been reminded of what a politically and religiously correct world we live in. My thought on that is very simple, "In God we trust". No offense intended and no apologies given.

I am not religious and I find these types of topics to be offensive. I am sure I am not alone in feeling this way. It's funny how people who make religious comments never think about how it makes non-religious people feel, they think it's always positive & acceptable. That's not the case. Often times it alienates people with alternative views and makes them uncomfortable. I know this was not the intent but I find it's better if we come together instead of breaking apart. We all come together when we support each other.

I think whatever gets someone through this disease is acceptable to talk about. It shouldn't offend anyone because it's not intended to offend anyone. That's what is wrong with this country these days. You cannot say anything without "offending" someone. It's gotten really out of hand and it's a shame.
