Hello all, I wanted to get on the story band wagon. I was diagnosed with left sided 6+ years ago. I have been using Asacol and Canasa with some help for the last 5+ years. Things began getting worse in November "11". I was having lots of D and blood and decided to get back to the GI in Jan "12". After another round of Flagyl (c-diff diagnosed) and a second follow up scope, I was still a little inflamed but was able to gain almost complete remmision by April. For some reason my UC always remissed in the spring and summer months? Around July, things took another bad turn and I was in the same bad condition, lots of bloody D (10-12 times and waking up in the night). It was clear to me and the doctor that the asacol and canasa was not doing it anymore. So, after more testing stool and blood my GI took me off the asacol/canasa and I began the process of prednisone/imuran. The new combination isnt helping either and the last 3 weeks have been in the hospital (2 days) on solumedrol(IV prednisone). I am still going to the bathroom 10-15 times a day, night sweats and constantly confined to the house. My family is very outgoing and I cant work through this mess. My overall health has declined (weight, appetite, sanity) My GI has began the process of starting Humira and it will be a couple weeks before I get to try it.
More history: I am an ex-smoker. I am 46. I quit smoking cigarettes 16 years ago and other smoke 7-8 years after that. I was started having troubles soon after. I had always gotten by well on the asacol/canasa and never dreamed of smoking again. I have decided to try smoking cigarettes again and started today. I have been reading about this disease for the last few years and I cant believe the progression my condition has gone through in the past few months. I am willing to try the Humira and smoking short term to get things under control since the prednisone/imuran isnt helping much at the moment. The prednison side-effects are starting to kick in. YUCK
