What do you believe caused your UC

Hard for me to say since I suffered with bowel issues of varying degree for many many years (being told ibs) but was never scoped or tested in any way until two years ago. When my bowel issues first started (15 ish years ago) it seemed to start after I went on birth control pills-specifically ortho tricycline which, since made by the tricycline people and was marketed to help for birth control aaaand acne, I assume had some sort of low level ongoing antibiotics. I took these for years, had continuing bowel issues, worsening as time went on. Doctors refused to consider the two related, refused to scope me and said I had ibs because I was "high strung".

Now, I don't think it was just the pills, I'm also genetically susceptible to auto immune disease, many family members have an autoimmune disease, but strangely, everyone of us has it manifest in a different area of the body.

I too was an out of the blue case. During my second pregnancy I developed foul smelling diarhea from one day to the next. My GI also thought I'd developed IBS but said he'd be remiss if he didn't check for IBD.

I wish I knew what caused it--I respond well to diet mods and probiotics and had perfect remission the one time I was on antibiotics, so while I don't know if dysbiosis caused my UC, it certainly seems to be the main driver of my symptoms.

just had a couple questions for you:

can you kind of give a rundown of the drugs you have taken prior to the colozal ?

any idea how many flares you have had ?

do you recall how many scopes you've had ?

sorry for the loss of your GI - have you seen his replacement yet ?

Just an FYI I had to go to my GI yesterday to see the nurse practitioner. I got to meet the doctor who will be doing my colonoscopies moving forward starting in 2017. He's 47 years old according to what I looked up, his name is Ziad Younes. Really nice. Think I'm going to be pleased with him. I'm sure there will be some days I will see him if the nurse practitioner isn't there. Seems to have a nice bedside manner.

1. Hereditary illness, I am the fifth family member with IBD.
2. Quite smoking a year before diagnosis..a powerful trigger.
3. Drank some very contaminated water..another trigger
4. Was given a double dose of antibiotics at the doctors for Dysentary which it may or may not have been, but then UC raised its ugly head.

1. IV Antibiotics when giving birth
2. Stress
3. Bad sleeping/eating pattern with new baby
4. Taking a lot of advil at the time as I was getting a lot of headaches due to #3.

Totally.sucks.

In response to Sabinasan, I too, was healthy, & not genetically predisposed, nor fit the profile for UC at ripe age of 41 when I became symptomatic soon after getting Hep B vaccine, as a health care worker. Making the same UC/HPV correlation as you and browsing internet for confirmation, led me to this forum and your comment. Like someone else in this thread, I had quit smoking between vaccination and onset of UC symptoms, a brief time frame. Within 4 years, my symptoms became acute to critical, necessitating an emergency subtotal colectomy. Interesting, too, is that traditional treatment made me worse not better. Quality of life has been dramatically compromised every since. Surgery is no cure, as you know, usually, and most def if caused by vaccine. Most assuredly, vaccines are poison The studies and statistics for vaccine injury and correlation to autoimmune disease prove that. Nowadays, newborns are given the Hep B vaccine!!! a couple of years ago, I came across an article, summarizing the results of a UK study that included a line graph of the results that showed an alarming increased rate of UC among those having Hep B vaccine. The line of graph shot way up, as I recall. Unfortunately, I can't find that article or I would've linked it here. I sincerely wish you and all those here, well, as a fellow UC survivor.
