ill with colitis

hi folks been bleeding, blotted, right side pain, feeling sick and constantly tired since september 2011 thats when I saw my GP he took blood tests that showed nothing and was referred to hospital.

 16 march 2012, endoscopy showed 15 cm i have an ulcar surrounded by white lines and diagnosed ulcarated colitis.

i was given 12 weeks on 100 ml pentasa enema 1 mg twice aday

then reviewed was down to little bit blood loss and was put on once a day

since then iv been ill phoned the hospital and was told the Doctor will phone back, never did

 my GP said you have to see the doctor at the hospital which is not till next week carnt go on like this so tired, last week i was 14 to 16 times a day to the loo any advice welcome

hi just phoned them and was told the doctor will phone you back, im now taking pentasa twice a day which has helped as i have a months supply but will run out near the end of the month as im only perscribed one a day have the review appointment next thursday so hoping to get put back on two a day

Can you ask your doc to also give you canasa suppositories in addition?

Are you doing anything else?

Diet?

Probiotics?

Supplements?

I hope you get some answers, and start to feel better soon.

It doesn't surprise me that your doc said it has nothing to do with diet.

I can however tell you, that for many of us diet is a big factor.

Many of us are intolerant of gluten and dairy, and adjust our diets accordingly.

You may want to think about a food journal to track the foods you eat and see what correlations come about.

 

Has your doc ever checked your vit. d3 levels and b12 levels?

There is a big correlation between IBD and low vit. d3 levels.

Has he ever tested you for low levels of that?

I think it would be wise to get your blood serums vit. D3 tested.

had blood tests done and meds changed to 800mg x3 oral and 1mg supositries, felt better for a while and the consent toilet trips stopped until last night

One thing I want to point out to everyone is that we need to study up on this disease as much as possible and not just take a doctor's word as coming from God. Too many people just take the words coming out of a doctor's mouth as gospel, like they know what they are talking about. Some doctors have more knowledge than others but the truth is no doctor knows the answer to everything. You could ask 100 GI's a question (such as diet) and it seems like you would get 50 saying diet plays a roll and 50 saying it doesn't have anything to do with it. The truth probably is that diet can effect some UC'rs and not others and that there is proabably no way to tell which patient is which. Last year I told my doctor that I switched from taking Asacol 3 times per day to 4 times per day and he said that that was a great idea because the most important thing was to keep it in your system as regularly as possible. Someone else just posted here not too long ago that their doctor told them they might as well take all their pills at one time because it made no difference to take them several times per day. I'm not necesarily saying one doctor was right and one was wrong but merely stating that with many treatment options one doctor says one thing and another says the exact opposite and we shouldn't just automatically assume that whatever comes out of the doctor's mouths is right just because they are the doctor.
