Hello! I already have a child with my partner, but I was wondering if the UC medications that he now takes would make it difficult for us to get prego again?? Sufasalizine, prednisone and folic acid. Thanks, the experiences shared means a lot!

No, none of those medications should cause any problems for your partner.

If he was on Azathioprine, Remicade or Humira it would be another story. I think you guys are good to go.

Tho I take no 5ASA's (because I do not tolerate them), I am a a guy and I do recall from hears back- and I see it's still listed in the literature- that a common effect of sulfasalazine is lowered sperm count- although not necessarily enough to prevent conception. The effect is short term and goes away as soon as the drug is discontinued or given a holiday.

Well I'd try before Remicade. He'll still be fertal but I don't know about the health of the baby. I know a woman shouldn't get pregnant on it. Not sure what the effects are for men.

Andrina, you are not correct about Remicade and fertility, or Remicade and pregnancy. Please see infantrisk.org for more information about all kinds of drugs and pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Kazbern, thanks for the info. I hadn't even thought about fertility & pregnancy issues. Glad I did the research now & it looks pretty positive for my daughter's future when she is MUCH older & starts a family of her own :-)

Thank you for pointing this out to me. I cannot read the article because my english is too poor for this professional talk. My information is at least 2 years old what's the newest update on pregancy/fertility and Remicade?
