I just got put on Methylprednisolone for a severe painful back issue that happened a week ago. My regular internal medicine doctor was on vacation so his practicing assistant prescribed this steroid to help with the inflammation of my back. Is this virtually the same thing as Prednisone? I've never heard of this one before...I can only assume by the name it's in the same category. I've got 4mg tablets.

I don't know the details but it is the same. Are you on what they call a medrol dose pack? 4mg pills, you take 6 the first day, 5 the next, then 4, 3, 2 ,1. I have one of these around the house and I have been considering taking it for my UC but it is a very small dose and only for about 1 week. Please let me know if it helps your UC at all.

Prednisolone is prednisone not needing a pass thru the liver. More like synthetic cortisol. However methylated means it DOES need to go thru liver.

Sounds like a fancy name for prednisone.

Yeah it's one of those dose packs. I'm having a mild flare right now so I'll be curious if it helps it. Prednisone always works for me.

I just got a methyprednisone 4mg. dosepak for inflammation in my inner ear. I took four pills then had to stop because it made me very dizzy. The next day I'm feeling fatigue and irritableness in my arms. Is this normal and how long will this small amount stay in my system?

I'm a little confused. Usually the dose pack starts with 6 4mg pills. Could it be that it was actually the inflammation in your inner ear that was making you dizzy and not the pills? That can happen with inner ears. If you took 4 pills and then just quit that will give you the fatigue, and irritableness (in your arms?). Prednisone is all about tapering. In any event since it was a fairly small dose for one day only it should be out of your system before too long.
