seems like someone posted awhile back that there was no test for gluten sensitivity - wrong ! at least if you consider intolerance the same as sensitivity - i do -
this here one:

Just the other day on Dr. Oz, he said there was no test specifically for gluten intolerance but there were symptoms that are strongly connected to having sensitivity....
Apparently there's celiacs patients and then there's people with gluten sensitivity where they don't get the inflammation in the ville of the small intestine (hope I got that info right) but plenty of people are gluten sensitive and didn't realize it until they too gave up gluten and although they don't actually have celiacs disease, they found complete relief from the symptoms of being sensitive to gluten...this is what I'm also going to try...I've been tested for celiacs everytime I saw a new GI (4 times) now and it came back negative every time yet I have almost all the same symptoms that gluten sensitive people have. They say if you have at least 4 of the symptoms you may be gluten sensitive.
There is no medical test for gluten sensitivity like there is for celiacs according to Dr. Oz, which is why you have to try going gluten free to see if your symptoms go away..here are the symptoms I recall off the top of my head;
brain fog
headaches/migraines
acne issues
eczema
bloating/belly aches
D and/or C
acid reflux/heatburn issues
anxiety/depression/irritable
Apparently these conditions can be brought on by having gluten sensitivity and it can appear right out of the blue at any age.

There definitely is testing out there for gluten intolerance. I did it, and its not a secret. Doctors just choose to go for the most extreme diagnostic/blood test which is celiac.
In my opinion
, It's not that more people are becoming intolerant to gluten, its because grains are not prepared or soaked the way they used to be to aid in digestion, and the fact that gluten is used in higher proportions of our food (to help in taste and binding/stickyness for bread) that our bodies are not properly wired to digest gluten in large amounts.
Testing for intolerance can be done through saliva. The proper test would be called "Gliadin Ab Test". Gliadins are polypeptides found in wheat, rye, oat, barley and other gluten grains, which are harmful to the mucosa in susceptible individuals. The ref values for the Diagnos-Tehs, Inc. lab test are
Borderline: 13-15 U/ml
Positive: >15 U/ml
And below 13 would mean no issue with gluten usually.

yep - as far as grains, barley, rye, wheat (gluten/gliadin)were significant - rice and corn were moderate -
other problems were with pineapple, banana, apricots, almonds and in general most nuts, egg whites, most beans, and something else i can't think of -
dairy is ok, i just don't do it -
so my diet consists of meat, fish, veggies, and fruit -
as long as i'm strict with the baddies, i can throw in one of the not-so-baddies once in a while -
but really, it's pretty liberal and i'm healthy so the minor sacrifices are worth it -
will it last forever - who knows ?
the available tests are varied and to me somewhat confusing - i think like pb4 said, the best thing is an elimination diet - it just takes some diligence - and that can be hard - especially if you're sick -

Wow, thats a variety of different foods! I wonder how they are wracking up your digestive system in terms of UC, what did your doc say about
these in terms of your UC?

89 -
ya, i don't talk much with my doc about
food - he's a great guy but is traditional western med - he listens to me about
what i need from him and that's the way our relationship goes -
it is a lot of different things but i believe it has to do with bad mechanics - the foods aren't the problem. my body is - just gotta figure out a way that the two of them can have a peaceful coexistance -
if i completely eliminate grains, which in my opinion don't have a lot of nutritional value, then my gut will be healthier and can deal better with the other stuff - the good stuff like bananas and pineapple and nuts -
we'll see what happens - right now i'm in a pretty ggod place - hope it stays that way -
